Variator cover held on with 2/3 screws

Hi guys,

I'm in the process of restoring an old Peugeot Speedfight 100cc scooter. Yesterday I removed the variator pulley to inspect the drive belt and rollers. I've discovered that in the past someone has drilled out one of the variator cover screws, presumably because it had seized or the screw head rounded off. Anyhow the variator cover is now only held on with 2 out of 3 screws. This cover only keeps the rollers in place within the variator assembly so presumably isn't subject to a great deal of force? Do people think it's fine as is or is there a danger of the transmission destroying itself?

No the cover don't hold it in place the pully and the nut does that that's y you need a locking tool to undo it a lot of peugeots crankcase bolts fall out if not looked after only thing you can do is try to re thread it or buy a new engine case I know this problem because I only have 4 in myn. A little heads up the 100ccs are not great for kickstart so keep the electric start working for as long as posible

It's not a restrictor plate. Its the cover on the moving part of the variator pulley that hold the rollers and slider plate in place. In the attached image it's the three little screws on the right, one of them is now a drilled out stud.

AFAIK that's to stop grease getting out, when your rollers are greased.

My own scooter uses no lubricant as stock, so there are no screws holding anything in. And besides that, I use Dr Pulley sliders that don't need lubrication.
