On a cold start this morning, got an egg cups worth of fresh oil seeping out from the bottom of the bike. On close inspection, it's coming out between the filter housing and the engine casing - right at the very bottom. No leaks from anywhere else.

I presume this is just a poor seal between filter housing and block due to the very cold temps and that a new filter and gasket will cure the issue. Filter doesn't look like it's new so the gasket is possibly perished or perishing.

No leak once the bike is warm and on a warm start, no visible leak either.

Interesting I had a leak recently occur on my 09 Hornet from between the oil filter and engine as well I torqued up the k&n filter and it still leaked(albeit less). Difference in my case was that it would leak consistently even when warm.

My best guess is maybe due to the engine expanding from the heat the seal may become better :S

I fixed the issue by just swapping out the filter no more leak what so ever after I think changing the O ring might do it as well although my K&N O ring looked to be in good condition. Also it might be worth tightening the filter a little more just in case it hasn't gotten a little loose.

I has teh DUMB.

Loose coil on the right hand cylinder explains the lumpy running and remembering which direction the choke moves explains the duff starting. Not trying to start the bike with the fuel tap CLOSED also helps.

Anyhoo that's the oil changed, new filter on. Old filter had a duff seal.

Bike now running a treat.
