Yamaha ybr125 clutch lever issue

Hello,

I am new to biking and fell off my yamaha ybr 125 on my first ride. Fail.

Nothing spectacular but I snapped off my left mirror, my top box came off and I bent the clutch lever.

Since the fall when I pull the clutch lever, it hits the handlebar. This has meant that occasionnaly it won't allow me to change gear because I can't fully pull in the clutch lever. I thought this was due to it being slightly bent but I have since replaced it and still it hits the handlebar.

Any thoughts?

Are the handlebars bent? Did you replace just the lever or the whole assembly where it clamps to the bars?

Is there any play/slack in the clutch lever cable? You need to adjust it so you only have a little clutch cable slack.

You can make the adjustment at the handle bar or were the cable goes to the engine clutch cover.

Check to see how much movement you have at the clutch end by moving the lever forwards and backwards:

You shouldn't be able to move it back (away from the cable) by more than a couple of mm, and the angle between the lever and the cable should be less than 90 degrees, as in the pic below.

Just another thought... does the replacement lever have the same amount of travel as the original, on the cable side of the pivot?

Post pictures of the old and new levers - it could be that the new lever isn't pulling the clutch cable far enough.

As far as I can tell the handlebars aren't bent but I will give them another look,

I just replaced the lever itself with a like for like swap but the issue was evident with the old lever.

If I was to adjust the cable to take out any potential slack, would that then stop the lever being pulled back as far as the handlebar?
