I noticed the exhaust box is getting a bit rusty on my XJ6. If I clamped a bit of zinc onto it would that work to stop the rust. I know this method is used on ships and drilling rigs but can it work on a bike?

as wit many things the theory is spot on but in practice the effect is minimal ... unless you call your bike ss titanic or summit the like..

otherwise try summit like

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0&_nkw=zinc+paint+for+steel&_sacat=0

then spray wit vht. paint ontop.

It won't help, if the rust is there, it'll rust under the layer of the zinc, I'm afraid. You'd need to get the piece perfect clean before you do the procedure.
I'd rather get some ''rust-eating'' paint instead. Thumbs Up

Only if you're going to immerse your bike in salt water, will this work!

Wont getting regularly wet with water from the road count? Say if I attached a 10cm x 2cm x 3mm plate of zinc to the can underneath were road spray will wet the plate and the exhaust? Surely Il get the neccesary circuit?

It'll only form a galvanic circuit with any areas immersed in a continuous run of salt-laden water. It would need to be galvanised fully; dipped or sprayed.
