Car MOT seat belt question

The womans car failed its MOT on 2 things;

Rear seat belt not working (you have to press it down to plug a seat belt in)

Emissions (its a turbo diesel which does 4 half mile journeys a day )

She was meant to plug a car seat in to the dodgy one so it wasnt tested and give it a good run before taking it, but she forgot about the car seat and didnt get time to give it a run...

Question is now that its failed on the seat belt, if a car seat was to be plugged in to that seat would they be allowed to test it still?

Obviously it will be getting a thrashing before going back, and the seat belt will be replaced at some point.

I would imagine if it's failed on that belt/rear belt then it will be tested again whatever, just get a latch/fixing from a scrappy.

similar to above - I had an old car fail on a frayed seat belt. Got one from a scrappy for a tenner and fitted it myself. There was no drama.

Cant advise on the emissions without more detail.

Always got an advisory for car seats as couldn't be tested

They're not allowed to move stuff for inspection. E.g. if your exhaust was completely covered by some kind of under tray, they can't inspect it for leaks as they can't remove the tray.

Should have just folded the rear seats down (If they can be folded down).


Ref the smoke test. Best thing to do is throw a Wynns Diesel Magic in the tank, and go take it for a hoon.

If you have access to a baby seat, just drop it in the seat the belt doesn't work, as others have said you'll just get an advisory

Err - can't you still see and operate the buckle (which is the part that failed?) with the baby seat attached? If you can, and because he knows it's fucked, I would be pretty surprised if he didn't re-test it and fail you. I think the time for hiding the problem has passed.

If I was an MoT tester and someone tried that shit I'd do all I possibly could to fail it again out of sheer principle.

Phoning Ford for a price of the buckle in a bit, I might test the theory by changing it and then putting a car seat in it anyway
