Generally how long does askmid take to update?

Policy purchased on Saturday morning cover issued straight away policy documents received yesterday via email I am insured with Devitt underwritten by ERS.

Currently using my business phone for work as my social phone it is shit so I can't show the insurance certificate to plod on my phone if I were to ride and went past an ANPR equipped vehicle nor do I have a printer.

Having recently lost my 47BHP restriction certificate I don't want to risk riding getting pulled asked to produce my license plod seeing it is an A2 license and then start getting questioned about my bikes restriction.

I have had several heated calls with Devitt insurance desk monkeys and told around 48 hours which would be tomorrow morning is this correct?

My Varadero is getting picked up tomorrow evening I do not want to have to cancel because my new bike is not yet showing as insured on MID.

About 7-14 days, but you can ride even though ask mid is not up date. As far as I know the police/ANPR use a different insurance database.

Have you got a copy of your insurance certificate through, if so just carry it with you, the 5-0 can call your insurance company to confirm your insured, if it comes to it.

If I were to be stopped it would most likely be in the dead of night on the way home out of office hours working away tonight for example my client is performing live I finish at 4am.

So my options are if it is not updated over night;

Ride without proof.

Buy an over priced printer from Argos tomorrow.

Go to the public library with the smelly mongs.

Askmid is just a useful app and not a legal binding up to date data base.

It is more a telling you what he weather is doing rather than getting meteorological facts correct.

The Police will have a more up to date system, but still can be out by a few days.

As long as it's legal then it's legal. Carry as much proof with you as needed to prove who you are, the Police can and will confirm with you / your insurer if they need to.

However, as a bodyguard and former Varadero owner / mad skillz welder - you will be excluded from the checks made against mere mortals.

You just tell mr policeman you have insurance and with what company. If out of hours then they can confirm the next day.

I've had it were it took them a couple of weeks to update. I wanted to tax online after buying my bike but after a couple of days of it not being updated had to get the insurance to email me the documents so I could print off and go tax at post office.

Would jotting down the details (policy number, company, that kind of thing) on a piece of paper not help? I know it'd have no legal standing but it'd give the Police a start on checking your insurance if they stop you?
Or, of course, you could try to just not ride like a 'tard until you've got your documents sorted (and found the restriction certificate)!

Just because it's not on website doesn't mean you aren't insured. The time and date that is on your policy is when it starts.

When I insured my bike I selected half our in the future, got my documents (on their website when I log in) and I was covered from then, didn't show on ask mid for ages.

Works the other way round as well, cancel your policy and you're not covered, although ask mid takes a week or two to update.

Even if you had the documents if it was not on the database the police would still have to phone the insurance company.

For all the police they know you could have got insurance and shortly after had it cancelled so they would still need to check.

Just for information, there has never been any form of requirement to carry a restriction certificate and it has always been the burden of the police to prove you are riding outside the bounds of your licence.
