I'm having problems with my 1999 Duke 2 as it's developed a smoking habit.

I deduced the problem to valve stem seals so I did the necessary, got them changed. I took the head to an engineering shop and left them with the seals to change for me as I couldn't get a spring compressor to do the job myself!

The bike runs fine again but still has the smoking problem. Here's the run down:

It doesn't smoke when first started.
Doesn't smoke when cruising along.
Smokes the worst at idle after having run the bike a bit and you do get a puff if you blip the throttle.
High gear under load it doesn't smoke so much
Smokes constantly if you full throttle up the gears
Staying in a low gear coming down a steep gradient then blipping the throttle tends to give a fair puff of smoke.

This would still lead me to believe it's the valve stem seals (did the shop change them?) rather than piston rings etc - I could be wrong.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help as it's really a bit of a pain now!

Thumbs Up
