I think you've found your problem, not common on fazer 600's

replace the cap, scrub the plug with a wire brush

No, it is part of the spark plug cap; they unscrew from the HT lead, with the replacement screwing back on. I replaced one on my Thundercat a while back. Check what resistance it is though... I recall mine was a 10k ohm cap, which is less common than 5k ohm ones. And mine was a very specific design that was only available either OEM or, as I found, second-hand from a breaker.

you need ones of these CLICK HERE

At £2.50 each you might as well swap all 4.
They are straight instead of angled like the OE ones but fit and work just fine. You simply unscrew the old from the HT lead and screw on the new one.
