Anyone know why this happens on a second start up from cold? It always happens when I start the bike from cold once it's warmed up it starts up fine every time. My guess it's something to do with the oil being spread across the engine but it should be making things easier not harder to run (Castrol motorcycle 10w30 btw)

And on a side note on the image attached can somone tell me what these pipes are?

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply, It's specifically on the second start up of the bike the engine feels and sounds like it's struggling real bad and about to stall almost starts to sound like a vtwin

Sound quality isn't great.
There's a hissing in the background (thought it was cam chain slap initially but it carried on after the bike was turned off!!!) that obscures most of the bike's grumblings.
Possibly sounded a bit rough on second start up but without eliminating background noise it's tricky working out what noises exactly the bike is making.

Sounded to me like a misfire, I think one maybe 2 cylinders being slow to join the party.

I think you might be right. What are the possible causes, loose/bad plugs, poor connection from coils or bad coils. I suspect it might be a loose plug since I was extra cautious at the time(about a year ago) not to strip the cylinder head (1/4 more after finger tight)

Well, being cold is the problem I guess. How's the outside temp there 10°C or below? It's pretty normal for bike to ''hesitate'' when it's cold. Fresh spark plugs would help actually. Thumbs Up

By the way, why did you put 10W30 in it? 10W40 does the same thing, but can be used in temps above 30°C, which you will experience during the summer. Thumbs Up

Hi yeah the weather's around 8°C . I've used 10-40w before and will most likely next time, the manual recommends 10-30 though

So those overflow pipes what do they do out of curiosity?

It is what you call it, overflow hoses. When there's too much of petrol somewhere, it'll overflow via these onto the ground. These are quite small diameter, so they could easily be mounted onto the bowls of the carbs, so when you drain them, the fuel doesn't pour onto the engine.

Fuel tanks also have overflow, so when you overfill it, you don't have to suck the petrol out of the tank yourself.

The easiest thing for you would be to take the tank off, a look where the hoses go. OR, just read the manual. Thumbs Up
