Have a look at the reviews for the Samsung Evo drives then check on your mobo website for compatibility.

I'm running a Transcend 2.5 inch 512GB SSD370 SATA III for my Audio sample library which it's perfect for. £159

Samsung 850 pro have good things written about them but maybe out of your price range. They're very quick and have a longer life.

One of the best decisions I made by going SSD.

wouldn't mind a larger one for my audio recordings and studio work
but I can eat up drives like nothing else
esp when editing video in HD Laughing

just upgraded my system to an i7 with 12gb of ram and 4gb video
only thing slowing it down is the boot time and program launches Esp Adobe CS6 Crying or Very sad

I either buy Samsung EVO or Crucial, though Crucial went through a patch of poor performance compared to others. I think they are pretty much level again. I say Crucial as their warranty is awesome (memory or drives, for fault or just because I ordered wrongly/changed mind). Whenever I've had to return anything to be replaced, they send you a freepost label and deal swiftly.

Manufacturers I wouldn't touch, in order absolutely do not touch to 'I just wouldn't'. Sandisk, Kingston & Intel. Intel were really bad for a while, horrendously slow compared to others, failure rate WAS high too, I believe they are better now.

I got a Samsung 840 SSD 250gb ages ago for £115 so probably a lot cheaper now. Had no issues and it makes booting up and general tasks so much quicker.

I used to rate the Corsair Force drives, they were one of the fastest. I bought a 480GB one about 4 years ago. Wear rate has been excessive. We've also built a number of desktops around the 60&120's and have had 3 fail out of about 20. Quite early on too

250GB Samsung 850 Evos are down to £80 these days

The only thing I'd consider against that would be the 250GB Crucial BX100 for £60 that popped up on HDUK yesterday.

Micron who own crucial also supply intel with memory chips so you probably risk the same failure rate with crucial.

That said the x100 crucial 512gb drives seem pretty cheap (sub £150) and have decent reviews, they are faster than the 256/128gb drives in the range, you could get one for fast storage and a smaller better quality drive for the main os.
