Hi,

I've got a tomtom rider and it comes with a cable battery charger. I want to connect it in my Honda CBF600.

I don't think that it's a good idea to connect it directly to the battery. I think that the best way is to connect it somewhere that will give electricity only once I turn on the key. What is the best way to connect the cable? Are there any spare connectors for accessories?

Thanks

If I were you, and if you're confident, I'd take the power from either the ignition or killswitch, and the earth to, well... an earth.

Since it's going to be at the front of the bike that makes sense to me, unless you want to feed it across the length of the bike.

Does the headlight of your model come on automatically with the key? If so you could plumb into the sidelight for power, then grab the earth off the headlight or sidelight.

I often fit those pick op power from any black switched power inside the head light on a earth is a green wire
Or power feed to front brake light switch and a tag end to a frame bolt for the earth connexion

Have a look on this forum for a guide on wiring up an auxiliary wiring circuit written by Stinkwheel. It tells you have to wiring in to a switched live properly.

Alternatively, wire it right to the battery. I assume you're only going to have the GPS plugged in while the bike is in use - you're not going to leave it parked up for days with the GPS attached - so it won't be draining the battery. The cable doesn't appear to have anything which will draw power itself, at most it might have an LED where the parasitic draw is negligible.

The advantage is wiring to the battery is that you don't have to know what you're doing, and removal is easy.

Are you mounting the Tomtom unit on an Active Mount? If so you can wire it to a switched connection. I you are using a passive of any other mount you need to convert the bikes 12v to 5v.
