Hi, I am new to bikes but am loving it. Very Happy

Basically my bike keeps cutting out after a couple of miles (despite a full charge.)

It is a Honda XR 125L. I bought off of e-bay. The previous owner said the battery is new. I have changed the spark plug, cleaned at the air filter. Will next check the regulator / rectifier (if I can access it!)

WITH LIGHTS ON: Battery starts at 11.12 and then slowly drops down to 9.39.

WHEN NO POWER: Battery is anywhere between 12.3 - 12.5.

WITH ENGINE RUNNING: Battery is at 13.4.

REV SLIGHTLY: Battery goes up to 14.8.

Do I need a new battery do you lot think?

Please let me know whet you think. Thanks.

After it cuts out, does it start again off the battery ?

More clues needed.

Battery sounds fairly normal...
As to the cutting out.. well, wont be related to the battery I'm afraid.
Bike uses a 'self exited ignition'... the spark-plug ciurcuit has its own winding in the generator to make the electric for sparks; only effect the battery has in spinning up the crank-shaft to make the electric the ignition circuit uses; (if it's electric start not kick) after that, engine's running independent of the battery, so if it conks out, its not to do with the battery.

I bought a bike. Previous owner said "new battery".

Changed the reg/rec. and bought a new battery. Problem solved for the no charging thing for us.

As for the cutting out. Different bike but had the float stuck in the carb. Bike would cut out after a couple of miles. I regularly pushed it home again! until someone stopped and pointed out that the float might be a problem. It was Thumbs Up
