My royal enfield is due an MOT.

Both of the small position light bulbs above the headlight have blown.

The sidelight is inside the headlight, this works correctly

The headlight also works correctly, both main and dipped beam

Is this a reason for failure?

You just need 1 position lamp(if its in the middle) a dip beam with the right pattern and a main beam, the additional sidelights don't need to be tested if not working.

Sometimes people refer to "if its fitted it has to work", this is a hangover from the days they used to write certs by hand and make up failures they were sure were right , there are obligatory items and anything else is untested.

The strict letter of the manual say position lamps are not obligatory if you have a headlamp, but that any position lamp, whether obligatory or not, is a fail if it "does not illuminate immediately it is switched on".

My tester wouldn't bother, yours may have a different view.

LED bulbs, Y U NO?

Looks like it should be a dead easy fix - don't you just need a cross-head screwdriver there to get in to the bulb?

It is an easy fix, but I don't have any spare bulbs, and I was going to take it to the MOT station this afternoon

I'd not worry and drop a dabble of tape on it.

If they fail you, contest it Wink

Unsure why people worry, just simply tape them all, you don't need a retest.
