Hi All,
I wondered if anybody could help me with an issue I've got with my 2009 Honda CB1000R.
Since replacing the battery, I've kept the bike on charge using an Oxford Oximiser charger, but when I go to start the bike 95% of the time it wont fire. I turn the ignition on, and the fuel pump primes and everything seems normal. When I go to start the bike the engine turns over as quick as you would expect, but it just doesn't kick into life. I've tried throttle open / throttle closed, on side stand / off side stand but it's still the same. I'm fairly sure it's getting fuel, as after a few attempts at starting I'm sure I can smell fuel through the exhaust.
Last night I managed to get it to fire up, and once running it was absolutely fine! It runs a treat. But after letting it run for a while I switched it off and it wouldn't restart.
It will bump start, and does usually bump start on the first attempt.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated, as I'd like to get this issue resolved before my tour of Scotland (booked for 4 weeks time), and I'd like to avoid main dealer bills if possible!
Bike is a 2009 (non ABS), with up to date service history.
Thanks Guys,

You have a Honda with electrical issues. Such surprise, much reg rec, wow.
Get it running again and then check the voltage across the battery. You want a nice solid 13.5+, aiming for around 14 really.
Anything less than 13, or you'll see stuff like 12.2, 11.9 etc etc then you may have a fudged regulator, Honda standard.
Check the stator outputs, so unplug reg rec, check AC V from stator, 3 yellow wires usually, + on there, - on frame, should see an equal amount on each wire, would guess going on my old Blackbird readings, between 55 and 70v AC on each.
If that is good, regulator, if not, stator. |

Had numerous Hondas and numerous regulator rectifiers. If it isn't the reg rec then I'd be surprised. ____________________ FZR400 (blown engine), ZXR750 (blown engine), ZX6R (accident), CBR600 which had engine issues after which I learned to change gear..., CBR900, CBR924 (stolen), CB600, CB1300 (everything blew up), BMW K1300GT (written off, hit from rear while stationary), Bandit 1250 for a couple of months, Triumph Sprint ST 1050 (nicked) and somewhere in there, I wrote off a Ducati 748 at Cadwell. |
