Evening,

I'm changing fork seals and can't get damper rod bolts free? I've tried the broom stick down the stanchion but no joy, it just keeps spinning! I have an impact driver but hex piece isn't long enough. Any tips please? Thanks.

Either buy a long impact hexagon socket bit or just simply drill the head off the screw.

Are these upside down forks?

If not, and they're RWU, then you don't need to split the fork to change the seals. You can carefully screw a self tapper in each side of the seal and lift it out.

Get a long hex socket, and next time wizz it loose with the fork still assembled.

If you can't find a long enough hex bit (I couldn't), buy a cheap allen key of the correct size, slice the angle off it (I used a dremel), and use it in an impact socket of a matching size. Use it in combination with an impact wrench with enough juice. I've found cordless ones to be lacking in the juice department.

Also, your local friendly garage will probably do it for free if you ask nicely. I have done this also.

I was going to ask if that was possible! Thanks.
