Abba stands, anyone got/used one?

In my new found vocation as an MOT tester, there are obviously several things you need to check with the wheels in the air and lots of bikes with no main stand.

As I don't fancy leaning someone's pride and joy over on a potentially weak side stand, or putting a jack under an expensive or fragile exhaust/belly pan, I've been looking around at possible solutions.

Paddock stands are no good, so I'm looking at an Abba stand, which can be had as a set with all the various fittings.

It seems almost too easy to use to be true, so are they really as good as they appear?

I couldn't be without one with my ER6F. Can't even adjust the chain properly without it and all for the sake of not making provision for a centre stand. All bikes without centre stands suck !.

I have one and swear by it - they're super stable and totally risk free. No balancing act required to put the bike on it.

Abba sell a mechanic's kit with all the adaptors which will probably be a good choice for you. Our local workshop uses several of them and has that very kit.

Ive made a couple. While abbastands seem to do the job, the "need" for adaptors is a load of bollocks.

As a professional, you can probably justify a better bit of kit, there are a few options.

How much? I'd probably go with one of these (or the many variations) if I had workshop sized space, where it would be very nice to move shit around without wheels fitted. I'd have several

Worth calling ABBA they may do you a better price than on web if you are REAL trade

This thread reminded me of the cool product Abba make, need to get a front arm lift kit ordered as the superbike front lift thing is useless.

Quite fancy a wheel spin to but it's discontinued, other brands are on ebay though.

I've got an abba stand and yeah they are as easy to use as they make out.

Please as punch with mine currently my bike is without wheels held up by an abba stand and 2 axle stands under the forks, couldn't justify the extra £50 for the front lift arm for the limited use ill get from it, if i need the front wheel off the ground i use a jack under the exhaust with a plank of wood and then prop the front on the axle stands as above.

Just go for it, you will not regret it.

I've got one, it's awesome. Had it for years, well worth the cash. You do need adaptors for each bike, and they don't fit some bikes (like Buells for example). But they are dead easy to use and very versatile.

Something that I was casually pondering recently is: how do you lift a bike with no centre stand and a single sided swing arm? Is the only way with a platform lift (or some precarious balancing act) under the engine/frame and lifting until the rear wheel comes off the ground?

Same adaptors fit my NC30 and Cbr600 which is a bonus, neither of which have centrestands making the abba stand essential.

Wouldn't be without mine. It makes lifting the rear so easy with the extending arm, it's also pretty rock solid once it's up.

Great stand. Made it easy to service rear suspension. I have the swingarm removal adapters as well. So much easier to use on your own than a usual paddock stand.
