Well, the book says GSF650SA, everyone else says Bandit with a half fairing.

But I've taken a few surveys recently and one of the early questions always goes like this:

a survey wrote:
Is your bike a:

Sportbike

Roadster/Naked

Enduro

Chopper/
Cruiser

Sport-
tourer

Tourer

Harley-
Davidson

Scooter

Others

So:

Sportbike? No, not at all.

Roadster/naked? No, it's faired (tho as I'm 6' 4" and the wind blast hits me around the nipples it might as well be a naked).

Enduro? Nope.

Chopper/cruiser? No.

Sport tourer? Maybe, at a push. Not very sporty or toury though.

Tourer? See above.

HD? Nothing against them, but it's not.

Scooter? Plenty against those, still not.

Others? Well, I guess so, but it seems strange and unfair.

To me, my bike is..... well..... a bike. I want an option "Just a bike". Nothing special except it's my bike and I invent journeys as an excuse to ride it Smile

Plain, regulation, all-rounder for the road, with no pretensions or aspirations...

It is a half faired bandit. The GSF part denotes the model.

Its the same as my bike being a 'Thunderace' but is also a YZF1000R

Suzuki GSF650SA Bandit with ABS braking. Its called the Bandit as thats the common name they have been given.

GSF denotes the bandit model, 650 refers to engine size obviously, the S means its a half faired and the A means its the ABS model Thumbs Up

I had one of those as a courtesy bike, dreadfully boring to ride and the pegs very nearly vibrated my legs off. Laughing.

I'd class that bike as a commuter also, that or half-faired.

That's how I ended up with one for a bit. Hands tingled for hours and my arse went to sleep after 20 minutes! My 690 has a more comfy seat than that thing...

Absolutely, I'm glad I'm not the only one that experienced this, the girlfriend hated being pillion too as the vibration was even worse!

How people can purchase one and be happy I don't know. I've had comfier rides on my racing pushbike. Laughing!

Your problem is that you're addicted to taking daft surveys. Rolling Eyes

At 250kg wet, I'd class the GSF650SA as a "tank".

Hmmm.

Do you like it? Does it suit your riding style and make you happy?

Then who gives a toss what other people might classify it as? Confused

Ponder less, ride more. Thumbs Up

says the man with the 170kg 25hp air cooled 2 cylinder

imagine how much your little 305 would weigh if it had 2 cams an extra 2 cylinders a few more valves and was water cooled,
it might even make 50hp Wink

the bandit despite its weight feels pretty light once moving
and its 240kg wet

Uh, yes, thanks, I'd noticed that. It claimed 35bhp out of the factory, BTW, so should be 33bhp legal by now, Officer. Wink

250kg according to Suzuki, and it's the 0mph weight (and wide seat) that I can't get on with on the Bandit, with my stumpy pins.

They're fine bikes, my workmate loves his and I enjoyed a quick try on it (once it got going) I just can't figure out why they weight 54kg more than an SV650S. Neutral

Because there's a lot more engine mass, and it's a steel cradle frame, as opposed to an alloy truss frame. Would've thought that was obvious; they're both budget bikes, and neither of them is going to have had a lot of lightening work done on them, from the factory.

Except that is the current water cooled bikes weight, which is a very different bike to the OPs oil cooled one.

All the best

Since then, I've upgraded to a 190kg 22hp air cooled single. Folded arms
