riding in europe?

I've been linked to this from another BCF member on facebook and had a nosy around for more info.

It looks to be that as from 23rd April, euro countries can forbid you from driving or riding in their country, I would assume this would be for the worst offences but they can still confiscate your bike and fine you many hundreds of euros on the roadside as it is.

This results from someone caught driving under influence of cannabis but i presume it can now be spread to any motoring offence

I tend to stick to the limits and use fun roads rather than smashing my way down the main roads, unless I have to be somewhere swiftly.

Hi Folks,

if you are travelling for example to Switzerland (my Homecountry) you have to be clair about the following:

We have special laws called via secura - in this laws is declared, that the police can confiscate the driving licenses and the bikes if you have been controlled with too much speed than permitted. This is for guarantee the expected court fees!

How it is with the driving licenses in the EU - i don't know, but i can visualize, that there will be a possibilities by the laws in the individual countries to retain these licenses.

I'm sure they could ban you from riding / driving in their country anyway. I know this as the French plod did this to one of our number on a tour two years ago. He wasn't allowed to ride in France for 6 months from the moment he was stopped for excess speed (another 10kmh and they would have crushed his bike) as well as a hefty fine. Luckily we were about an hour from the German border going directly East, so one of us pillioned him and another rode his bike over the border (then pillion back to get other bike). The banned rider had to get back to the UK through Germany and Belgium and boat from ostend as couldn't go down to calais. This was at the start of the holiday so he lost the hotel booking money too.

Not good.

Apparently, The country cannot take the licence as it is the property of a sovereign state but they can eject a person or ban them from driving/ riding in that country.
