I was looking for the thread a while ago about how fast you have all been but couldn't find it.

I just had my fastest experience today on the back of a friends blackbird. 155mph Shocked !!!! The most fun i've ever had.

And you will all argue with me for this part, but I was only in jeans and a t-shirt, with a helmet. Call me a tosser but if I came off at that speed I doubt I would survive with leathers or not.

Probably not, but that guy who came off the kawasaki in the moto gp was doing 200mph or so, and he still survived, sure he had broken legs and whatever, but he still survived. I like to think leathers double up as a bodybag! Laughing

But hey, tis up to you, though I guess it is bloody hot at the mo!

I would of put the leathers on but I didn't realize how far he was taking me. We were only meant to be going to the petrol station down the road. But hey... I'd rather die fast then have a boring slow death.

it was nakano who came off at 200mph at mugello. And no he didnt break anything!!!! But remember tracks have plenty of run off unlike your average road!! Coming off at 155mph in a tshirt and jeans would hurt very much!!!!!! and if you hit something I think you would end up being viewed by many people on ogrish.com! Smile

Assuming you didn't hit anything, then if you were wearing leathers you would have a reasonable chance of surviving I think. If you were just wearing jeans and a T-shirt then you would probably wear away all your skin, go through quite a lot of flesh possibly down to the bone, and have gravel imbedded in you that would need to be scrubbed out, with the huge risk of blood poisoning, then you would need lots of operations for skin grafts etc for years to come.

Guess it's not your fault seeing as you only thought you were going down the road, but maybe your mate should have mentioned that you might be going a tad fast. Smile

Call me a boring git if you like, but if any 'mate' of mine did that to me without telling me what he was going to do beforehand, he'd now be an ex-mate.

In this case you enjoyed it and got away with it. You were lucky.

Oh and if the speedo indicated 155 that probably means in reality you were going no more than about 120.

Thats the sad reality of it, i once saw a video where a busa was doing and indicated 215mph, even though it would not be capable of this, it was more like 190mph. (it was standard.) Thumbs Up Very Happy

Analogue speedos are notoriously inaccurate, and the faster you go the more inaccurate they are. I've got a GPS that I use on my bike which gives highly accurate readings. For instance when the speedo says 50, the GPS says 45, a 10% error. At an indicated 155 the error could easily be double that or more.

Speedos are normally inaccurate, and 155mph will be about 140 I would reckon, but find a nice friendly police man and I'm sure he'll be willing to measure your true speed using his special kit, and if you're really lucky he might even let you have a ride in their car and you could even get a free nights accomodation from them. Smile Thumbs Up

155mph with a pillion in shorts and t shirt is very very daft! And leathers would make a difference, a big difference. You only get one life so don't play stupid games with it as if there was a crash at 155mph in shorts and t shirt than you wouldn't stand a chance! Not saying I've never taken risks by riding not in full kit, but recent stuff has really bought it home to me how you do only get one chance and no point in fucking that chance up for a stupid reason. Thumbs Down

Race tracks are open and corners, the most dangerous parts, have the biggest spaces between the track and the barriers. Unless another rider hits you on a track, you'll get away with bruises or a broken collar bone (apart from those tragic fatalities in a couple of races this year, but they don't happen very often). Leathers on the track reduce the road rash. On the road if you come off at the same speed or even slower there are so many things you can hit: cars, lamp posts, brick walls. You name it. The TT race is insane as it has every one of these except cars

i am the only sad twat on a scooter who wears full protective clothing all the time on my bad scootay (bad as in shit)

if i am going just down the road i will wear my jacket, gloves and skid lid

if i am going any distance like more than the usuial 3 mile trip i will put on my trousers too

cant be too carefull, i keep to sensible speeds and even after getting an er-5 in a few weeks i wont exceed 70 - 80

as there is a prat with everyones name on their cars and they will get you if you do enough miles

Fastest I've ever been was quite recently (about 30 mins ago on the M6) The motorway was clear and I managed to get the GS up to an indicated 125MPH (more like and real 110-115MPH?), and it seem to have a few more revs to go but as the bike was bucking and shaking from side to side (probably down to the blown fork seal Confused) I decided not to take it further.

A bit irresponcible for youre mate to go blasting over the 1 hundred mark without saying and without you wearing leathers...

Was he wearing leathers?

If you have to be really silly, wear leathers in future.

At 155 there will be nothing left of you, parts will be everywhere if you come off.

I had a feeling people would say this. Luckily I do trust him and he wouldn't do anything he didn't feel safe with. And I know I should of being wearing leathers, which next time I will, even if he says "I'm just parking it up the road" Lol. As for the speedo - It's an ex police bike so the speedo's are extremely accurate for if they need to pull someone. It's been tuned and chipped so a very nice ride.
