why is it the simplest of jobs become utter nitemares.

Went to change the oil this weekend and guess what...oil plug is totally mullered. Why do people do this? to make matters worse access to the plug is a total nitemare, with the exhaust system being about 15mm below the plug, cant even get a socket on it.

I've ordered a new plug just need to somehow get this one off, any ideas?
tried molegrips, cant get in to weld anything to it or cut a groove.

The thought of removing the whole exhaust system just to get to this is not a pleasant one.

The reason the plug head is chewed is probably due to it being a sod to get at.

Use a pump to suck out the old oil, hand pumps are under £10 from eBay. If you can get the tube to the bottom of the sump you should get most of the oil out.

No.

These

Or file some flats on it and get a spanner on.
Don't forget to buy a new one first.

think i am going to give up and take to a garage and see if they can get to it. no doubt £££ in labour time if they have to remove exhaust system etc.

new one is ordered already.

want to get it sorted for next time, but cheers for the ideas on sucking the oil out, possibility i suppose.

Stilsons are pretty magical, but I doubt OP has access without taking the exhaust off (then inB4 "how remove snapped stud?").

Suck, suck, suck. I hear that there are cars out there that don't even have drain plugs any more.

You could take it to a welder and weld a nut on.
Put the bike upside down on it's seat and bars. Easy job to get at the drain plug in that position too. Smile

Drain plugs are put on tight because, 'if the oil comes out it is serious'. Rolling Eyes

They are put on too tight by the sort of folk who should be refused free access to tools.
Unless it's a hacksaw to cut their tamperfering fingers off with.

Just bought one of these, £6.66, much success emptying gearbox of oil.

This set-up looks easier to use and possibly cheaper.

I'm agreeing with the pump it out suggestions.
You'll get the oil changed, which is all the drain plug is doing for you anyway, and save yourself the massive ball ache of possibly fucking your sump up.

Failing that God.i suggestion might be worth a punt.

Edit: Screwfix do an Erbuaer brand version, reviews suggest it'll work.

I've had a lot of success with Beta damaged nuts sockets.

Googling images of the superduke's oil drain plug suggests there indeed may not be enough room to use a socket on a ratchet but have you considered using one of the abovementioned rounded socket removal solutions with an extension bar?

The Irwin bolt grips you can get a spanner over the end, that is if you can get the socket on without a ratchet getting in the way.

Shame. There is some really good advice on this page. Buy one of those socket and it'll last you a lifetime. Even if it only lasted long enough to do this job, it would be cheaper and easier than paying someone.
