Could anyone give me a rough costing of enduro or supermoto racing. How does it compare to road racing say thunder sport 500's?. I have been looking into thunder sport 500 but to me £500 a race seems a bit ott. Obviously the higher then class the more £. My goal is just fun hobby racing which doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Any info would be appreciated.

some endure events you can just book, turn up, pay an entry fee and ride round, so it's really just the cost of your bike and transport

Very, very cheap compared to road-track racing.

For instance, the first one I did was about 10 miles away.
Total spend on fuel maybe £8. Entry fees including acu day licence - £45.

Even better value when you consider that was for 4 hours of 'race time' AND the marshals would give you a hand if you were having trouble with a section Smile.
Tyres should last a good number of events.

You could also consider supermoto pit bikes, minimotos and so on - costs are a bit higer and it's a lot harder to find places to ride.
I'd be doing lots of enduros if my wrists weren't knackered - they are great fun generally, with a good variation of terrain and opportunity to play a bit.
A bit more fitness needed than for thundersport, however.

The fitness bit is what has draw me to enduro, got 2 herniated discs so retired from rugby at the ripe old age of 22. Have strengthened my back and riding doesn't bother it so mixing bikes with fitness is what I dream about lol. Also trying to get my missus into bikes, and she likes the idea of trail riding.

Now onto bikes.. budget is about £2000 that will need to include off road gear but I know ebay is you're friend on that front.

Could it be possible to get a decent enduro for £1500 that could be converted to supermoto trim and put up with a decent bit of road riding or is it a pipe dream?

Also 2 vs 4 stroke?

I know a higher powered enduro will be more a handful on the dirt but better on the road/track.

What is the best compromise between performance/reliability/off road ability? (Won't commute on it just b road stuff)

I keep being drawn to the KTM exc 300 & the Gas Gas ec300. Have also the read the exc 250 is more than powerful enough. How would it fair on the road?.

Any 250 and 300 2 stroke that's fairly modern (ie 90s +) should have a very smooth easy to ride nature - more so than the revvy smaller bikes.
The 300 especially can be 'lugged'.
You can get a KTM from around £1k if you keep a good eye out. Proper SM wheels aren't cheap for them, but do fit straight out without hassle.

For fun, however, I'd go for the powerbandy 200.

Could the 200 just chug a long at green lane speeds just thinking about the gf she will be on a 125 and riding slow so want my bike to be flexible enough to go slow with her but faster for me.
