Mines on the R/H side, below the pivot for the visor but forwards a bit.
Mic hard wired into lid, so a short run for the cable.
I used the curved mount, it's pretty robust. ____________________ Currently enjoying products from Ford, Mazda and Yamaha

Depends on the helmet a fair bit as Roger mentioned. If you have irregular curves and vents getting in the way it might not fit properly on many areas of the helmet even with a curved mount.
I would personally go for top-mounting it. It gives a higher and more central field of vision. Wind drag I don't think would be an issue with a Drift regardless to be honest; but if it was its going to be a problem, it'll be more of a 'pain in the neck' if one sides constantly being tugged.
In terms of specifically where to mount it - test it out a lot before you actually stick it down (the 3m adhesive pads are an utter **** to remove). It will entirely depend on your height/type of bike/how you position yourself riding. I tryed mine with blue-tac/selotape numerous times sat on drive before I found the best spot to stick it down.
If you stick it how you think 'looks right' chances are it will record lots of clouds or lots of tarmac. Mine looks very high-angled if you look at it on the helmet sat flat, but once i'm on the bike its angled fine .

Was pretty restricted where I could fit mine due to the helmet having lots of ridges and lines rather than smooth curved areas.
Ended up mounting it as such

Gives a good view of the road only obscured very slightly by the helmet in the lower left corner

Actually prefer having it there than on top of the helmet as it won't get knocked off / smashed going through a doorway or similar.... also looks cooler than the teletubby look ____________________ Current Bikes / Projects: 1999 Rieju RS1 50

Very tempted to buy one of those too at that price. Didn't realise the 1080's had got so cheap. I paid £99 for my refurbished 720p Drift not much over a year ago ... And to be honest its absolutely-potato-crap-quality now . Looks like someones spat on the lense constantly. |

I'm still wondering why we are (still) mounting the WHOLE camera on our helmets and not just the optical module by itself with the battery, electronics and recording media as a seperate unit located safely out of the way in a pocket. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. Because technology has moved on?
The cameras are getting smaller and smaller all the time and it's much more convenient to have it all in one unit that you can just clip on without having to start messing around with plugging in wires and routing them into a pocket without fouling a zip etc etc.
These cameras are generally marketed / designed for all kinds of sports, not just motorcyclists with convenient pockets for ancillaries, I think it would be very rare that seperate wires and coponents (all seperately needing to be robust and at least splash proof etc) would be considered advantageous. ____________________ Current Bikes / Projects: 1999 Rieju RS1 50

You'd struggle to record 1080p at 60fps onto 8mm tape.
The battery is still requiring a reasonably large body, and now you have a decent sized screen to set up and review too.
The general consensus is that havig the camera near eyelevel minimises exagerrated ovements and feels most like 'being there' which may or may not be the desired effect.
It can be hard to avoid a bit of helmet at the side, however with widescreen that's not such an issue.
Mounts are relatively cheap, you could reasonably have a couple of options on your helmet always in place, and more on front/back of the bike.
Drift and most others can also be mounted on tripod screw mounts, giving further options for temporary unusual positions maybe down near footrests etc. |

Must admit the old Drifts are probably a bit more chunky than I'd want stuck to my lid but the Drift 2 is only 80 x 42.6 x 27.4mm and weighs 97 grams.
Much smaller than that and I think it starts going the way mobile phones did for a while where they can make them smaller but then they start becoming too small to be able to operate easily. ____________________ Current Bikes / Projects: 1999 Rieju RS1 50
