 |

The US only has one State (California) out of 50 that allow for lane splitting/filtering... and actually there is no law allowing motorcyclists to split in CA but, there is also no law saying they can't. Unfortunately the remaining 49 states expressly disallow it.
The general census from entitled American drivers - mainly outside of California is that filtering should be banned. Fearmongering surrounds the issue and many are brought to anger or violence when simply discussing the topic. Not to mention, split where it's not allowed and you may find yourself connecting with an open car door.
QUESTION: If filtering is legal where you're from, what have you found to be the general census/opinion of drivers, motorcyclists or not? ____________________ '12 D675R / Jardine Half System

It's not illegal over here, so just get on with the job of getting on. If you go about it in a careless or reckless manner you might get written-up for an offence but it won't be one of 'filtering'.
Generally car drivers respond to it with apathy. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

Most car drivers expect it and don't give a damn.
Some get angry but then some car drivers were angry before they got in their car.
They save their real anger for cyclists blowing red lights. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

I find most people move over slightly or do nothing, so I filter past them and think nothing more of it.
I assume most drivers don't care because bikes that get past disappear off up the road and don't hold them up anyway so no harm done.
How many of the 49 states that ban filtering (presumably on safety grounds) allow riding without a helmet? ____________________ Bikers make great organ donors - add your name to the register

Its allowed pretty much anywhere so long as its safe to do so. As for other drivers, why do you care what they think when they're 17 cars behind you in the queue ____________________ '13 Honda CBF125 // '99 Suzuki SV650s // '98 Honda CB600F Hornet |

I feel as though I've seen an increase in both types of action, of late - had an especially nasty cunt last week, decided it would be good sport to close the gap, while heading towards me, with no place for me to go on the nearside
I suppose the positive is, whether they're giving way or acting the arse, they are noticing us, so maybe the 'Think Bike' campaign is finally working. ____________________ Things get better with age; I'm close to being magnificent........

I find this attitude in the US most bizarre, mention splitting to folks (including those who park their fat arses on cruisers ) and anyone would think that you'd just dumped in their mouth. Besides, if we can't trust a good ol' gun toting Christian to open his door on us to save us from our errant ways whom should we trust?
On the flip side, US drivers, especially city drivers, are abysmal and chop lanes without looking so it's probably in the best interests of bikers that they don't filter. After a little road trip this last week I've witnessed the worst driving I've ever seen in the cities of Atlanta and Houston, seen numerous accidents including an artic that took out a few cars before jack-knifing into the verge, just about every muppet texts and talks which makes for interesting overtakes, especially when it's an artic, when the dopey cunts are weaving all over the carriageway.
At least when I get stopped speeding I'm the wrong colour to warrant getting shot on sight |

Here in the UK it can get rather stupid (people closing in on you, refusing to move) when filtering considering the British are supposed to be known for there politeness most don't bother moving over. However I was in France two weekends ago and it was amazing just how many cars just move over. When I say move over I mean give about a cars width of a gap down the middle. ____________________ CB125>CG125>GN125>ER5>K100RS>R1100RS>K100RS
