Possible clutch slipping

I have a feeling my clutch is slipping on my Hornet.

When I get to say 11k the revs increase and the bike doesn't really go much faster. I took my first pillion out yesterday and the same happened at about 9k.

Could it be a case of adjusting the clutch cable or be more a more serious internal issue?

Could be not enough free-play, could be the cable is gummed up.

First check your lever free-play because if you have none the clutch will slip.

Release the cable at the engine end. Once it's free you should find you can flap the lever by pushing and pulling the free end of the cable with just finger-tip pressure. If you can't, clean the crud out of the cable or replace it.

Ride at about 40mph, put it in the top gear (6th, I guess), twist the throttle. If it slips, the clutch is to be replaced or to be adjusted (in your case). If it doesn't slip and the engine starts shaking and having a tendency to die, the clutch is alright and you are being paranoid.

A clutch slippage would be more dramatic than just, the bike is not going any faster.

I have about 10mm free play in the lever.

Will try your method Rhyno, as soon as the vino has escaped my system.

Could my front sprocket be an issue? Rear sprocket looks ok and the chain is in good condition and isn't overly slack/tight.

Yes, 1cm free play is enough. No, the sprockets won't cause this.

what type of adjusters do you have? do you have the 10mm nut and posi drive on the sprockt cover? if so try turning the sprocket screw out 1/4 of a turn and see how it goes.
