Bike 2 Bike Communication.... where to start
Basically there's 1/4w Argos / Maplin PMR Walkie-Talkies; that are relatively cheap, and common, but low powered. 4w CB Radio is more expensive (but not as expensive as high-end PMR), that has better range and reliability, but not used by so many people and can be a bit bulkier. then there's "blue-tooth" devices that are even less powerful than PMR, but may eek a bit of extra 'effective' range from digital transmission; OR you have your mobile telephone... that's about all the 'off the shelf' options in the UK.
BUT starts with the headsets; old hi-fi addage, "shit in, shit out" headsets where comunications starts and ends, so if the ear-hone & mic are crap wont matter how great the radio handling the signal is.
Budget £20-£30 for that, and then cheaper, sub £50 a handset radios start to seem a bit of a false ecconomy.... and to get bike-to-bike comms that stand a chance of being 'useful' and so actually get used, you probably ought to be looking at something in the order of about £80 per person... ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!
Current Bikes:'Honda VF1000F' ;'CB750F2N' ;'CB125TD ( 6 3 of em!)'; 'Montesa Cota 248'. Learner FAQ's:= 'U want to Ride a Motorbike! Where Do U start?' |

If you actually want to be able to hear each other then spend some cash. |
This +1.
I was skeptical about paying so much for the -scala g9x, but its fantastic. Radio works flawlessly, connects to phone, Bluetooth sat nav, no wires flapping around, 1km range between riders, voice controls, the works.
The problem you have is wanting to talk between 3 people. Scala do cheaper models in the range, but can only do person to person in full duplex (I. E. Both talk at the same time, which I don't think pmr radios do?)
I believe the g9 (no X) does support more than 2 intercom connections, bet you can pick some of them up for cheaper. Buying a twin pack and an extra one will work out cheaper than 3 individually too. |
