Read your manual. Two stroke oil is much better than it used to be.

Hi

Short term safe bodge is probably to got for 33>1 or 25>1

Remember to jet up to suit.

All the best

Manual doesn't have any info as to what oil mix ratio to use as the oil had a totally seperate tank for the petrol so i just poured into a separate oil tank then the oil pump done the rest.

Thanks.

I will go for a ratio of 29>1 so in the middle of what you said, also the bike has a size #68 gurtner main jet already in it as stock was #60.

Do you think a ratio of 29>1 will make my bike smoke its back out or will it just be abit of trial and error until my pump turns up.

Also kickstart you mentioned at the beginning of your reply a "short term safe bodge". is it not good to mix your oil and petrol for a scooter yourself, will I damage my scooter if I don't ride it with oil pump in.

I would aire on the side of caution and go for the ratio with a bit more oil to fuel , a bit of extra smoke to keep your piston happy

On my trials bike I use a silkolene premix at 50 to 1, like others say though I'd go 30 to 1 I think, overdoing it will be smoke and plug fouling at the worst.

Remember though oil in the fuel mix means less petrol = leaner mixture= overheating damage possible, upjet it or risk it, choice is yours, if you decide to not upjet then I suggest avoiding thrashing it.

Does the op understand 'Up Jetting'? (Tamperfering with the carburettor jets to change the air fuel ratio/s.) It may be alien language for some.

The scooter has already been up jetted by me, I emailed malaguti themselves to ask what stock size main jet was and reply of them stated #58-60 and I have up jetted to a #68 main jet, the only problem now is the right oil to petrol mix ratio.

Hi,
just go for 33/1 thats always my default pre-mix setting.
its also easier to measure out.
its translates to around 100ml of fuel to 3ml of 2t oil or a litre of fuel to 30ml of 2t oil.

cheers,
GAZ

25>1 is 4%, 33>1 is 3%. Both relatively easy to measure out. 50>1 is fairly common, so both are relatively safe.

Running premix has other issue. Using oil in the fuel means you are getting less fuel for the same throttle, etc. Hence leaner.

Also with an oil pump you are still getting oil into the engine when the throttle is closed, with premix you are getting virtually none. Longer you do it the more likely it will cause a problem (ie, long down hill run with the throttle closed the whole way).

All the best

Aww no way can I balls the scooter up by using premix, though it would of been ok, I will use the ratio mentioned in earlier post.

1 quick question, once i receive my new oil pump do I have to do any sort of timing when putting the stator and fly wheel back on or can I just be fitted back to the bike without and pissing about,

Thanks for all your help everyone Very Happy

Stuff can run at 100:1 these days, but if you mix in at 30:1 you can't go far wrong!

I have no idea with scooters but if anyone had suggested I ran any of my RD's, GT's or YDS7 on premix I would have had a heart attack.

Get the bus till your pump arrives.

My petrol pump came today, was wondering do I have to do any sort of timing once i have fitted it and put the stator and fly wheel back on, or can I just put it all back together without any problems.

Hi

Not come across a 2 stroke with a pump that needs to be timed up. But if you have moved the stator then you might need to retime the ignition timing.

You will likely have to bleed the pump through to make sure there is no air in the pipes / pump.

All the best

I have put a permanent pen mark on the stator and fly wheel and also had the piston at the top of the cylinder before I removed pump so would I be able to just put it all back together and match up the pen mark
