yup, title says it all. passed on friday.
Warm-up ride pre-test was a complete fuckin' shambles, while nothing disastrous happened the instructor was de-constructing every move and error i made. Not confidence inspiring in the least, but warranted at least with hindsight.
Time for the test, Examiner was friendly enough and tried to tell me it was just a ride out and to relax and enjoy myself. At that point all i could think was 'easier said, than done...'
Once actually riding, i begin to relax and to focus on my riding. Three junctions from the test centre and we hit heavy traffic, my examiner has taken me on a route with major roadworks and a million traffic lights and more than half of the ride is spent stationary or at a snail's pace.
Finally back at the test centre, it's time for the debrief and the result, at this point i'm unsure of how i've done. On one hand i'm expecting the worst, on the other hand in the deepest recesses of my mind i know its not all bad. The examiner begins by kicking me in the stones for each of my minors before revealing the fact he gave me a pass. A weight lifts off my shoulders and i truly begin to relax in a warm smug satisfaction.
Where do i claim my Fireblade? |

You get one free with every MCE insurance policy. They're not really shifting at the moment.

Good work congrats
Staying stationary in the traffic waiting - can't get better the time is ticking and you are doing nothing, I've got a friend instructor and she says this is the best way to spent your time during mod 2, so consider yourself lucky

Hmm. I failed my first mod 2 - at Shieldhall - on a major, so I don't think the minors really came up. One minor on the 2nd go, stopping too close behind a van. It was just mentioned as a bit of advice.
I had the same chap both times, he seemed fair enough and didn't lecture my ear off. Obsessed with unmarked junctions though, went out of his way to find some both times. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I failed my 1st mod one on position over crest no minors(actually I rode proper shite) then got hopelessly lost on my next during during the free ride but passed with one minor turning back into the test center but can't remember what for, he told me I'd passed and then went through minors and chatted about bikes and work and stuff, it was basildon test center, found them all really friendly bunch. |

<glares belligerently>Whit team dae ye support?</glares belligerently>
The run up to and around the Welly is nice, but watch out for ScotPlod. Someone let slip that people are enjoying themselves on the roads, so obviously that's got to stop.
And a leisurely run up the wee west coast roads is well worth doing, Oban -> Skye -> Ullapool or thereabouts. Applecross Pass is a must. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I also have some vague memories of long gone summers, driving with my ol' grandad long those roads and many single track roads searching for ideal places to plant young salmon to restock the the rivers/lochs of the whole of the north of scotland.
As it happens i have some family in the area with bikes of their own, so once i acquire a suitable bike, i will have to impose myself upon them for a few nights whilst i tour the coast and isles.
As for fitba not really a fan, if pushed my support goes to the National Team, |

Urgh, I don't really recall except that I went east into Govan on the first one and west into Renfrew on the 2nd. Both times, we went through some residential areas to find unmarked junctions. You rarely see these any more: if there are no markings, nobody is expected to give way regardless of how the roads might appear, so be prepared to stop if there's any other traffic. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Many moons ago when I did my test in Inverurie, my instructor took me to the only unmarked crossroads in the town just before the test and told me the examiner would definately be taking me that way because he had a thing for unmarked crossroads. He did. So probably a fairly common DSA thing.
I also used a hand signal on my test and got away with it after stalling on my emergency stop on a bike with direct lighting. He did ask me why I used a hand signal before telling me I'd passed. My explanation that I am supposed to indicate left then paddle the bike to the side before restarting and know the indicators won't work with the engine off got a comment of "Well, there's nothing in the book about that, but it seems sensible in the circumstances.". ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. I did the 2010 Round Britain Rally on my 350 Bullet. 89 landmarks, 3 months, 9,500 miles. |

My examiner gave a bit of a grilling about how I went over the speed bumps rather then around them.
It was disconcerting at the time as each time I went over a bump there was an auidble squeak from the rear. The wheel was misaligned and rubbing a bolt. Still. 'tis all fun. Regardless, now I use a proper measuring technique to calculate alignment and don't count on the aligment notches anymore. ____________________ CBT: 12/06/10, Theory: 22/09/10, Module 1: 09/11/10, Module 2: 19/01/11

Surprised he went on about minors before telling you you'd passed.. seems a bit dickish considering he knows you just want to know!
I passed mod 2 3rd attempt, he never really said a great deal in debrief when i passed, just said i'd passed and filled the sheet in.. mentioned something about something i did but i really didn't give a shit cos he'd already given me the result i wanted.
congrats by the way |
