Crash happens at 1:39.

2 riders having a bit of cat and mouse through some fast turns until one of them target fixates.... quite disturbing hearing the groans of the crash victim, another rider is killed by the crashing motorbike flying through the air in the opposite lane

"When morons attack".

Guy wasn't helped by his riding companion who probably distracted him by getting up close on his quarter just before the bend keeping him on the outside of the turn and close to the wall. If the guy on the kwak hadn't backed off there he'd probably have turned in a lot sooner.

Shame the innocent guy travelling opposite had to die for their idiocy.

The guy on the inside was slowing, so that effects the visuals. But it looks like the crasher got a stuck throttle, the bike seems to accelerate into the reservation no?

Or was it just the other guy slowing down made it look like the outer guy sped up?

Maybe. But I'd bet early turn-ins are responsible for more crashes than late turn-ins.

People get scared by the corner coming up, so they turn in early and cut across part of the apex; unfortunately, there's more corner to come, but they're set up for a drive out when they need to slow down even more. Usually they end up 50 pence-ing the corner and slowing right down.

A late turn in gives more time to see through the corner, going slower into the corner gives lots of flexibility to adjust line, and you can power on once you've got sight through the bend.

This guy just went into the corner too fast and panicked. IMO if he wasn't so close to the outer edge, he would have spent more time braking and would probably still have crashed.

Of course the competitive aspect probably influenced his decision to go too fast.

Pretty horrific to be minding your own business and get taken out by 200kg of flying metal coming through the air though.

Unlikely, I don't know anyone ever had a 'stuck throttle' but it sounds a good excuse if you panic.
If it's Mexico the test probably comprises start bike, ride round a yard and stop.
Couldn't read a word but all those big yellow and red signs probably shouldn't be passed at 100mph+

Might have been target fixation, looking at the barrier instead of the apex. It's an easy thing to do if you ride mostly in town and get in the habit of looking at the bumper of the car in front of you. Then on the open roads you don't look far enough ahead.

Not this crap again. Target fixation is not an universal answer to every motorcycle crash you see. I know the ''target fixation'' is a motorcycle related term and people think they sound smart when they use such an expression. But it all starts to feel like the middle ages again. When every answer to a question was, the God. Rolling Eyes

Well my theory is much simpler, he just got scared and panicked. Or he was just an inexperienced rider, that went too fast in a corner too tight for him. Because the lean angle was the same until the impact.

Or maybe the position of Mercury to the Venus had inauspicious effect on the Sun, which caused it to shift the Earth slightly to the left, which made him crash. Thinking

Well, I do believe the police record says ''target fixation'' so let's leave it there, shall we? Thumbs Up

The tyre mark on the barrier was there before the motorbike hit it too - so it doesn't look like the first time someone's been over that barrier at that same spot.

(The ramp shaped barrier didn't really help matters either...)

It was designed to keep cars and lorries on the road, not motorcycles though. Even the road rails (metal stuff along the road) was designed this way and it's very dangerous for motorcyclists. Heavy injuries and most of the time death on site, when a rider gets into contact with the steel posts that hold the rails.

The stone walls, that are along the roads in the UK are in fact safer, than the ''modern'' road rails, that can amputate your limbs and even decapitate you, even when you crash at reasonable speed. Thumbs Down

I've never once used this term to describe someone else's accident and I've never once read it in a thread on this or any other forum. I have always analysed my own mistakes a great deal in an attempt not to repeat them. In this case I think it's a possible explanation. But it's impossible to know without getting inside the rider's head.

Agreed, my friend came off his Thundercat back in 2000/2001 - he was wearing leathers and slid down the road - all would've been relatively ok had he not slid into the railing posts and broken both of his legs - one of his legs was smashed so badly he almost lost it.
He still limps to this day, it would've [probably] just been new leathers if that post hadn't been there. But I guess he was lucky he slid into it leg-first rather than head-first.

Call it target fixation.
Call it a stuck throttle.
Call it what you want... But that riders skill is not good enough for the riding he was trying to achieve.
Body position is that of a moron who surfs roundabouts.

Dick head riding has caused an innocent rider to die.

Save that shit for the race track. Thumbs Up

How can anyone judge the riders experience level?
Regardless of whether you're Joey Bloggs or Joey Dunlop, approaching a treacherous bend at that speed is never going to turn out well. He underestimated the corner and how much it was going to tighten. Daydreaming? Distracted? Inexperienced? Who knows. Only the people that were riding with him would be able to make an assumption.

I think he got scared/panicked. From about 1/3 between his apex point & first contact with the barrier the bike starts to stand up. I think he started to brake rather than trying to turn a bit tighter. my uneducated 2p

Would say I agree with most on here and it's a case of getting carried away and allowing hubris to overtake experience. I am willing to say every single member of this forum has been guilty of it. I certainly have been. 9 times out of 10 it just means a near miss. Of the one in ten times normally it means some spill or a bump but not normally something awful........that one time in a hundred though. Well nobody deserves that.

The old saying, A Bad Road.

There are no bad roads, there are plenty in poor condition or unsuitable for certain activity on them but this road is very very clearly marked out as having a massive hazard ahead.

The same eejits fucked up The Cat and Fiddle. The Cat and Fiddle is/was a nice road but too much bike for too little skill scuppered that affair.

The guy spelled out his intent when he was hanging off and attempting to get knee down.

A shame for both of them.

The same mentality is ruining UK roads by idiot councils bleating for 50 MPH limits in 'wide open countryside. And plastering the roads with double white lines.

A few decades ago a mate of mine bought a, secondhand, KX250 crosser.
He spent a couple of weeks sorting it.
We pushed it down to the old railway tracks, we were all due a shot on it.
Finally he got it started and my mate disappears in a cloud of 2T.
A few minutes later we hear him coming back towards us, at full throttle, max revs, 50yds before he reaches us he jumps off the bike.
The bike carried on another 100 yds, went past us still at full throttle, max revs, before lunching itself on a concrete fence post.
There was sod all on that bike that wasn't bent, totally and utterly FUBAR'd, no one else even got a go, FFS!
Fortunately, my mate was wearing a helmet boots and gloves and got away with cuts and bruises. He said he'd never been so scared in his life!

So, it does happen, I've witnessed it!

I don't know why people like to view pix of bad crashes.
It makes me feel a bit sick in the stomach.
I wouldn't want to think people were looking at pix of me crashing, ugh, shudder.
