This is because of the no cache settings and only if you are streaming in HD.

Pretty much how it works with Netflix and Sky on demand.

There is no buffering mid movie unless of course someone on your network starts hogging the bandwith, but then that would affect any box.

Cansa, what OS are your boxes running? I am looking to get something higher up the chain to offer people, but everything seems to be android based.

Why don't you purchase one and find out?

Because that would cost £100, quite expensive when all I want is information that costs nothing.

For £100, I will tell you everything you want to know and send you a free kodi box.

I initially buy a few to sell, but when I installed the software I found out how slow, laggy and low spec they are.... sent those fuckers back and got a total refund.
I just couldn't sell them in good faith.

Well quite, there are lots of corner cutting MXQ box makers out there, but there are also plenty of decent units too that run android.
I am looking into getting higher specced boxes in just so I can offer them alongside the cheaper ones.
I configure them so they run seamlessly, with no frame skipping or any need for maintenance, but having higher specced boxes is always a good idea, it's just they all seem to be android based. You have said that yours are not android boxes and so I was just wondering if there was another option to look at.

Being a bit of an advanced user and a pedant at that, it took me a little while to do everything I wanted. Which as usual was a lot more than it was designed to do initially. Also above and beyond perhaps than those here would use it for.

Cansa has spent quite a lot of time to-ing and fro-ing, I have something working quite well now.

Long and short to the cheapskate above, yes he can help you and the £100 is worth it for the other bits of knowledge he will impart on you.

The HDMI-CEC compatibility is awesome, being able to turn on my TV (which powers up the box, yes my TV supplies enough power), then use it to watch crappy old shows that I haven't been able to find by other means (and I am quite resourceful). Not only that, watch instantly! It's an awesome little box.

It will be going with me to Lanzarote at the end of the month, as I've bought an apartment there and want to leave this there. It's ideal!

It's a long time since I hacked the very first XBOX to install XBMC, getting back into this again. The insider knowledge is incredibly useful.

Cheers Cansa

After a bit of setup hassle and a 20 foot Ethernet cable I had it up and running but I have to say its an awesome little box, pretty much anything you would want is on there and it does the job very well.

Also CaNsA is more than helpful with setup and support and fielding my stupid questions! Laughing

Eventually I replaced the long cable with a giant antenna usb dongle thing and it now works well wirelessly too! Not that the original kit was bad I think that my walls are lead based or something Mad

PJay,

Several people have contacted me asking the same question because they want to start selling the same kit, and i've told them the same thing.

If you want to know, then buy one.

Information does NOT cost nothing. Information I have, costs my employer quite a bit of money every year to access.

Information that engineering companies hold costs quite a lot. Information even costs money to obtain.

Information is NOT free

I think it would be fair to CaNsA for you to edit your posts to remove the content since this is a review thread, and not one for arguing about reverse engineering a product. After all, that is something that is more respectful to do over PM.

SILKYS TRUSTED REVIEWS - KODI BIGHDTV BOXES
(as sold by CaNsA):

This review will encompass the full purchasing experience and will be updated as and when there is progress or updates. Scores will be given out of 10 with explanations attached.

1) Sales Pitch 6/10
As to be expected when buying from a northerner or scouser , the sales pitch was pretty basic.
I was under strict instructions to "get all the rooms working with TV sharpish or I will not dress up on that corset you like again" , so as I am sure you can imagine I was under some pressure and needed to know that I was buying the right product.
It took numerous prompts to get anything more out of CaNsA other than " it does everything buddy! ".
Eventually I was given a list of the channels and stations that it can get. But I think he should provide this as part of the sales pitch.
The general approach was " it does all the channels pal, if you want it then you can have it ".
I would liked to have been sold it a bit more. Schmooozed a bit. Told I was handsome and generally flirted with.

2) Delivery 10/10
Once paid for the box was delivered first class and signed delivery. So took no more than 2 days. Great service.

3) Opening. 10/10
Wrapped and boxed well. Everything was there. You get hdmi and a network cable etc.

4) Initial Set Up 1/10
This may be updated at a later date if it proves that I am doing something wrong. (highly unlikely).
The box plugged in fine.
But the instructions for attaching the remote control (the only way to use the thing) are terrible.
To Quote: " with remote and sync til blue light off, press right and minus volume, til stop then blue light flash and use press remote "
eg: Engwish. ( I guess I could get our Chinese chum The Tot to interpret).
Anyway, I press the volume minus button and the right selection arrow ... and fu*k all happens. It doesn't stop flashing and it doesn't turn blue, and I cant use the remote.
So now I am waiting on the CaNsA Customer Support Service.... eg: I have messaged him on Facebook.
I suggest CaNsA writes his own instructions and sends those out with the box. Much more professional. Also, are the boxes and remotes tested before posting ?
To be updated.

5) Full Setup

6) Usage

Final Score and Summary:

my remote is slightly different
basically plug in the dongle and press the button on said dongle and it flashes
on the underside of the remote is a button press it, the light on the dongle stops flashing
