Hi, thinking about getting something LEZ-compliant ( ) to run as a 2nd vehicle, and maybe a stealth-camper now and then. 10yr old Transit kind of thing.
Am I going to be able to insure the thing, any tricks I should know given that I won't have any spare no-claims (full NCD on main car, 1yr on bike)? ____________________ BMW R1100R |

My family car used to be a 12 seater minibus with two seats taken out and replaced with a dog cage. I don't remember any problems with insurance, though it wasn't cheap.
Edit: Memories surfacing; I did have to go with a particular insurance company as my previous one wouldn't insure it, but it wasn't an issue for private use. ____________________ Licence: Nov 2012, Bikes: Suzuki GN125, Moto Guzzi Strada 750, Triumph Sprint ST 955i x 2

my van is privately insured.
my car (performance car) is insured through greenlight who specialise in modified or high performance vehicles. I've got my van insured through them as well under their modified vehicle insurance and all that took was me chucking a set of alloys on it
(I was talking to them about the car and happened to mention I was looking for decent van insurance presuming they couldn't help and they essentially told me, chuck some alloys or an exhaust or something on it and it'll count as modified so they can put all their discounts onto it for me. Probably the 1st time ever modifying a vehicle has lowered the insurance!)
They also mirrored my NCB from the car to the van which was very handy. Dropped the quotes I was getting from over £800 to £200
In short, yes it's possible. ____________________ CBR954RR - Daily toy

I insure my combo van privately.
I don't really pay anymore then I'd expect to pay for an equivalent Vauxhall corsa, about £160 with decent no claims.
You get stung a bit on tax, £220 for a 1.3d which would be about £35 if it was a car (not really an issue for a transit as it will be the same price bracket which doesn't seem so bad). Also some tolls, ferry crossings ect charge more just because its a commercial vehicle and you are quite limited on where you can park anything over 6'6, not just city centre a lot of beach, country parks ect have height limits as well. ____________________ Yamaha FZR400RR 3tj
