Least destructive to the object it's attached to or to the sticky mount?

Use a hair dryer to heat up the sticky bit and it'll peal off.

Use a length of strong dental floss to saw your way though the adhesive pad. Heat will make it a bit easier but floss alone should do the trick.

Use your thumb to rub off the remaining chunks of the sticky stuff, finally use some methylated spirit or isopropyl alcohol to wipe away any adhesive residue.

Can you borrow a hairdryer from someone? It really is the easiest way to get the mount off with the sticky pad in one go.

How did you figure that? Do you get blisters when you rub off sticky stuff off your helmet? I don't, and I've rubbed my sticky helmet loads.

Oh, unless you're getting blisters after heating the mount with a hot air gun, then I suggest letting it cool a bit before handling Wink

The chunks of adhesive pad clump up when it's rubbed making it easy to remove, the more it clumps, the easier it gets. Scraping the stuff off will take forever and gloves are no good because you'll end up mounting a glove to your helmet. Bare skin is the way to go.

Another method of removing camera mounts, completely without any effort at all, involves leaving your helmet inside a top-box in direct sunlight for a day, twice I've managed this...

WD40 is great for getting rid of the remaining residue. No need to finger your helmet then. Thumbs Up
