Hi I've just bought a dr350 I need to adjust the valves on the exhaust side how do i know when the bike is on the compression stroke and that I have the valves in the right place so that I can make the adjustment any help would be great😊😊😊😊. Thanks👍👍👍[/list]

Plug out, pencil down the hole and judge the top of the stroke. If both valves are shut then you are on TDC compression. there may be a mark on the timing gear but my way is old school and works.

Turn the engine till the mark lines up on the end of the crankshaft, wiggle the tappets, if they don't move make another complete turn of the engine and try again. if they both move a little you're in the right place.

If you do the pencil trick, don't let it get caught and snap off Embarassed

My mate did break the pencil, we just started the motor and reved it, a few sparks came out of the pipe but that was all.

Thanks for the info it makes more sense than other things I've been reading on google etc.... Some sites tell you how to do it but go on for so long you forget where to start. Lol... That's sound nice an simple so hopefully should go alright fingers crossed😊😊. Thank you for the info.👍👍👍👍

Make sure that there is some free play on the manual decompressor cable as I have a friend who bout a DR350S and he played with valve clearances for ages before he realised that it was this cable that was holding the valve open unintentionally Shocked
