Hi,

I have a 1991 KMX. It's just started happening all of a sudden, when i apply the clutch it seems the RPM seems to be increasing quite dramatically.

I have recently done a top-end rebuild, seemed to be running smooth until now.

Is it possible that the clutch is slipping and the cable needs adjusting?

thanks

I'm not entirely clear what you mean by "apply the clutch". Do you mean when you pull the lever in or as you let it out?

Does it idle steadily when in neutral?

Are your engine mounting bolts tightened up properly? No movement of the engine within the frame?

Sorry for not being clear!

Yes, when i pull the clutch in the RPM increases dramatically. The engine is solid in the frame. Seems to run pefect in idle.

Sounds like you might have an issue with cable routing.

Try to follow the clutch outer cable from the lever to the clutch, and see if it fouls the throttle cable at any point.

Do the revs increase when you pull the clutch in in neutral without touching the throttle?

How about if you change from neutral into first then back into neutral again without touching the throttle?

Or is this something that only happens when you're riding and changing gear?

I imagine that your clutch cable has come into contact with the throttle cable and is interfering with its action.

^ That.

Have you cable tied them together or something?

I was more wondering if there's a sticky throttle valve/cable.

So when you pull the clutch in to change gear, the revs will shoot up because the throttle hasn't fully closed.

Had this happen on the enfield when I was supplied with a dodgy throttle cable.

Hence my question about wether it does it in neutral.
