hiya folks, been having trouble with getting a spark on the bike, i replaced the plug, coils, cdi but nothing so decided to check the stator with a multimeter, am i right in thinking that to test it you put the black lead on one of the 3 wires and then check the other 2 for a reading with connecting the red meter wire, at the moment only one of the wires is giving a reading, is the stator brown bread or am i doing it wrong

thanks in advance for any help you guys can give

Even with burned stator and reg/req you'd still get spark. I did 40 miles with no charging whatsoever. Thumbs Up

What motorcycle are we talking about?

That depends on the bike. The older CGs ran the spark directly off the generator; the battery just did the lights (and starter, if any). The spark ran off one coil on the generator, and the other two went into the reg/rec, so if one of the coils was dead, you could easily get charging but no spark.

I've no idea what the Chinese copies do; try tracing the wiring. Normal CG wiring either has three yellow wires going from generator to reg/rec (the newer ones) or a yellow to r/r plus lights, a white to r/r only, and a black/red or black/white to the ignition unit.
