That is a great effect. My Canon does this but I have never really been anywhere up high enough to test it out.
Looking forward to getting out this year with my new lens. I got a 10-18mm Wide angle for the Canon.

Exactly what I thought. Also, I know you were just messing around/experimenting, but there's no subject for the eye to settle on, despite the sharpness in the centre. That camera setting I would say needs an obvious subject at the focal point.

My Nikon has a similar effect called miniature mode, it sort of replicates tilt–shift photography. I've tried using it on a few photos but never really found anything that I could get it to work on.
It has timelapse mode with the same effect as well which I used to make a little video www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpWqCJ4xGJs but again never used it afterwards.

What do people use to back up their files, i have an external hard drive but iv heard they will fail at some point, i genuinely thought it would last forever 
So ssd's, dvd, cloud storage, all of the above?
