When I buy my second bike I'll be doing my best to see about fitting frame mounted crash bungs - only decent quality ones though. In a crash, the cheaper bungs transmit crash shock (that would have otherwise been absorbed by the fairing/brackets) directly to the frame, decreasing the likelyhood of fairing damage, but increasing the chance of frame damage. I won't know until I bin my second bike - and I don't have it yet.
More to follow in several months time . ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/nsrandy/96rs250/ My Bike!

I have engine bars on my ER5 so I doubt I need mushrooms.
Is it worth fitting them anyway, if now possible, to save the paint on the engine bars?
I'd like to remove the engine bars at some point if I can because I'll only be allowed 33bhp so I want as little weight as possible, hopefully I can just fit mushrooms instead. ____________________ "I'm gonna get free, Ride into the sun..."

I most definitely have crash protectors, I figure that if I protect the engine, frame and fuel tank, everything else can be repaired or swapped quite easily.
I have the upper and lower protectors - https://www.mad-als.com/r1/pages/r1q.htm ____________________ Mr Pants! (Alex or Al)

yep without meaning to sound offensive the best way of looseing weight off a bike is going on a diet, unless your underweight then you should be ok anyway but you'd be hard pushed to loose a tank of petrols worth of weight unless you start takeing your seat off or other such madness...
For the first time ever owning my cx i managed to drop it, not an iffy camber or stone in the road, thought my side stand was down, it wasn't over i go.. the fog liight on the left side took a stight battering (but pulled it straight) and a tiny scuff on the engine bars... thats it! if the petrol didn't leak out then i'd probably just lay it on its side all the time actually i'd have to pick it up again... hmm perhaps not... but it would make changeing tyres easyer... ____________________ >RidingSkills<->Tech Tips<->MyBikes<

I have fairing mounted mushrooms on my NC30, so far they have saved my fairing twice (both stationary mind) one was when she was knocked over in gale force winds, and the other when i dropped her in London All she suffered was scratched bar ends. |

I would get them but I don't know anywhere that does them for a GSXR400R. Anyone? ____________________ Honda NSR125R -> Suzuki GSXR400R GK76a -> Kawasaki ZX636 B1H -> Honda CBR400RR NC29 -> Nothing |
Do you use crash bungs/ mushrooms?
No, i dont plan on using them anyway.
I have R&G bungs on my hornet, i had Motrax Magic mushrooms but decided they looked very weedy compared to the R&G ones.
Dead easy to fit, and hopefully will stop my engine slideing down the road.

I've got crash bars on the Super Tenere, only recently noticed those mushroomy things and predominantly only on "sports" bike styles.
Might have to look into it, might make the Super Tenere lighter for me to hold up (mind you, won't make it any shorter for my fat-ass stumpy legs, LOL) ____________________ Not nearly as interesting in real life. |

Have R&G lowers and swingarm mount bungs, also have the mid panel ones but have yet to fit them due to needing the fairing cut... will get around to it shortly!! Have never "tested" them but I'll only ever buy R&G as I've seen how much they have saved bikes (danny, mcJ included) etc and won't even consider any other brand. ____________________ Current Toys: 06 Yamaha WR250F | Nissan 350Z GT | Tech 4 Homes |

I've got them (were already on the bike when I bought it) and they've saved it from any damage in a couple of 0mph drops.
R&G are bringing out swingarm and fork ones for my bike later in the year and I'll certainly be checking them out. I'm not that fussed about scuffing fairings or denting the can but protecting the important metal bits can only be good.
There's always going to be that 1% of accidents where they don't help, but I'll put my money on the 99% where they do. |
