Hello all,

I am mechanically useless - hence my question...

I have a 2012 ER6F. Tonight I was coming home and accelerating quite hard when I lost all revs. After a bit of mucking about I realised that the throttle wasn't returning to it's closed (? zero revs) position. When I turned it closed and tried accelerating again I got enough power to get home.
Now the throttle can be turned in either direction without stopping - it will basically turn as much as the cable will allow and stay in whatever position it is left in.

Any ideas what could be the issue and if it is something I could have a crack at fixing?

Is the throttle stiff - i.e. is it binding? The cables may need lubrication if so.

Is the grip fouling on anything (heated grips in particular easily get stuck when rotating in muffs (ahem)).

Chase the other end of the throttle cables - you'll be able to see them actuate a little wheel just under the rear of the tank, on the right hand side; ultimately the throttle rotates flaps (inside the airbox) that control the air going into the engine. The idle adjust knob is also on the end of a stiff cable that leads to it (specifically, it controls where the wheel stops). There's a spring on that mechanism that could be broken or not attached correctly.

The throttle isn't stiff, it just doesn't stop turning. I have got heated grips, so maybe i need to check them.

I have taken off the housing around the throttle and the cables are all in place, although seem loose. I'll wait for daylight then chase the other end to see whsat is there.

Thanks for your suggestions

Thanks Davebike - the heated grip came away from the tube when I gave it a tug.
The throttle tube itself is working fine (after spending an hour trying to put the housing back together while keeping the cables in place Confused ).

Will go out later and buy whatever glue google suggests, then back in the saddle.

Thanks all
