Hey all, Need some help!
For a little while now my YBR has been slipping into neutral from second, or every now and then showing its in neutral when in fact being in first, but i just put that down to me doing something wrong.
Today riding home from work, I came of a mini round about in second, up a slight hill and changed into third. There was a clunky grinding noise from around my left foot so i tried to drop back down a gear. The gear leaver felt very loose, but clicked into neutral than into first, so i started to release the clutch and give it some revs but all I got was a horrible grinding noise when I released the clutch enough for it to usually deliver power. I managed to wheel the bastard up the hill home and had another look.
I can get it into neutral, and it idles fine. Drop it into first, start to release the clutch and I get the grinding noise, flip it up into what I think is second and it does the same.
I think it could be the gear box? I would feel confident doing work on the bike but really need it going quickly and cheaply (an impossible feat, I know!) ____________________ 2007 YBR 125 (sold), 2011 ER6-N (sold), LHD 1999 GSX750F (sold), ??? ??? |

Check your cable adjustment first. Make sure its actually working as it should.
You might want to be more assertive when changing gears and really whack it into gear. I sometimes change too lightly and it drops out |

I had a quick look at the clutch cable tightening it doesn't seem to do anything.
Just got off the phone to a mate and he said check the front sprocket where it attaches to the drive shaft?
also, just remembered that some times when.changing gear there would be a crunchy slap, sounded like the chain was hitting a cover, checked the back sprocket and.chain but that seemed fine as well,
thanks for your help in advance

I went back and had another look yesterday morning, The chain wasn't on the back sprocket, so i took the chain guard and the front sprocket cover off to have a look. One of the teeth had snapped, and most of them are bent. I bought and fitted a new front/back sprocket, chain and clutch cable.
The bike will run, i can get it into first gear and the front sprocket will move - the clutch wont do ANYTHING though. If i hold it in (or move the clip where the cable attaches) literally nothing happens, the sprocket keeps moving.
I have some mates who can look at it next weekend, but obviously if anyone can give me some advice/help that'd be great.
Thanks ____________________ 2007 YBR 125 (sold), 2011 ER6-N (sold), LHD 1999 GSX750F (sold), ??? ??? |

Too far for me to travel, just had accident also so cant be heading down
YBRs eating their sprockets seems regular now.
The adjustment for a new cable will be far different from your old clutch cable.
Set up your clutch properly, you should back off all the adjustment at the lever so there is 0 pressure there at all.
On your clutch end, you should have an adjuster that requires spanners, you may also have under a cover another adjuster that will need to be adjusted properly.
I hate them and cant do them Hence another BCF user showing me.
Best bet, PM neil. he has maintained a YBR from new I think... |

I have had the bike off the stand, dropped it into first, started to rev and let out the clutch and nothing. There is no bite point or feel on the clutch (even where it connects to the engine) Iv also noticed that when its in first, you can move the bike as if it was in neutral. In first or second, the sprockets spin, very slowly and uncontrollably. ____________________ 2007 YBR 125 (sold), 2011 ER6-N (sold), LHD 1999 GSX750F (sold), ??? ??? |

I have fitted a new rear and front sprocket and chain, The chain is the correct length. The front sprocket sit on the drive shaft fine and the splines are all good. I can spin the sprocket the shaft spins with it. The engine is no longer clunking or grinding either. When I put the bike into first the drive shaft starts spinning the sprocket/chain slowly, using the clutch does not make any difference (either the leaver, or where the cable attaches to the engine.
I have some (not very good) pictures of the old front sprocket (one of the teeth had snapped, and some of the others are bent)

I haven't drained the engine oil yet, could give that a go if i have any time in light tomorrow.
Thanks for your help ____________________ 2007 YBR 125 (sold), 2011 ER6-N (sold), LHD 1999 GSX750F (sold), ??? ??? |
