I like both.

You only have to look on sale sites like ebay or gumtree, and you can fall in love with a bike and then read its a 90s or even an 80s bike.

Then walk into a dealership and want to buy them all lol

or is that just me Razz

Nope. I like high frame GSXR's, mk1 Blades, ZXR's etc. Stuff that was around when i was a bairn. Also most of them are still quick enough to get you banned or killed and are amiable to home maintanence.

But my GT200 is still my favourite. Electric start 2T for the win.

I'm more a fan of the newer shaped bikes, ones that are angular and sleek lines rather than the curved or rounded ones. They look a little bloated or lardy to me despite the fact that I know they go like shit off a shovel!

I lusted after a K6 gixer for ages so style-wise that is the look that I am keen on. Or Triumph 675R's. Or a 2007 Fireblade. Not a fan of the Kawasaki H2R though as it has gone too far with the angles. Someone designed it with a set square and an irrational fear of circles.

Up until mid-2000s. (With the exception of the B1H - looks more akin to a frog!)
Thought Hondas especially got exceptionally ugly after that generally.

Generally speaking I'm more of a fan of the newer shaped sports bike, but with a few notable exceptions like the VFR400 and ZX-7R (Both of which I'd have got over my R6 had I found a reasonably priced, good conditioned one, locally)

What I consider to be ''older'' bikes probably aren't that old anyway, but.. I don't mind a few of the newer ones, Panigales are really nice. S1000RR's would look nice if it wasn't for the obnoxiously ugly headlight.

Really like 1098/848's, 748's and 749's too - Ducati are probably the best consistent nice looking models I think.

ZX6's until 2009, and ZX10's until 2008 were all nice. After that sh*t hit the fan and they all look like something from bugs life.

R1's were all nice until 2015 - now they look like something from a sci-fi film.

All the R6's and GSXR's I can't really pick faults in, although I do still prefer the ones that are 10 or so years old compared to the older/newer ones outside that time.

Fireblades all look the same to me, I don't dislike them, but i've never been a fan of them either, look a bit generic.

I quite like the early 2000 models generally. Have the best aspects of the older/newer styling and also pulled off colourful decal's and paint jobs quite well in my opinion.

Older, generally speaking. Stuff like the ZXR750, the twin-headlight blade and the NC30 are very much yum.

There are some hideous old sportsbikes, though - think CBR600F1. Also the GPX600 is so heroically ugly I have a strange sort of admiration for it Confused.

I'm also thinking older, generally.

I do like some modern stuff (although I can't immediately think of anything) but I think my favourite, from the era when sportsbikes became what we know them as today, is still this

https://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff426/zedheadchap/Suzuki-GSX-R-1100-Front-Right1.jpg

It looked purposeful and muscular then and I think it still does, plus they got a reputation for being a bit brutal and hard to handle, which all adds to the mystique.

But my all time favourite is from a bit before, when sports bikes didn't have to have fairings and things like this were more commonly referred to as race reps.

Love the older bike styling. To me my tzr250 is a work of art, just love every detail on it and I also love my 97 fireblade. I have a real thing for bikes with carbs rather then FI as well.

I like old motorcycles and cars because they are unusual, by today's standards. I grew up in the 90's, so used motorcycles and cars from the 80's/90's were around all the time. We all like things we saw first when we were children. I watched WSBK and DTM on Tv in the 90's, so I've got a thing for racing stuff from that era, hence my Superbike and my attempt on owning a 190e.

Both motorcycles look cool, both are Superbikes, the ZX10R is way superior to the ZX7R, but I still prefer the novelty of the old 748cc Superbike more. Plus, I like unique/unusual things and there are not many ZX7Rs on the road anymore. There are more motorcycles/cars I'd like to try, I even made a list. My all time favorites are the endurance (Bol d'Or; 8h suzuka midsummer dream...) motorcycles from the 80's/90's.

I'm a great fan of the slabby look too. They were the closest you could get to the then current endurance racer look back then, assuming you couldn't afford a Harris Magnum or Moto Martin custom frame job. In fact, I thought they looked even better.

Mine (black and red) and bruv's ones:

Had the 11 after, but wasn't nearly so much fun. Looks-wise, I prefer the older ones, but if I could still ride sports bikes today, I'd get something newer - I always wanted to be up with the fastest and best handling back when I could ride them.

Suzi slabbies are still my favourite looking bikes.

Remember the first time i saw one at the petrol station at the end of the dual carraigeway by Box Hill when i was about 18.

Fell in love with them from that day.

I think it was the first, modern era, big engined bike that properly looked like it had fallen off the back of a race transporter.

The GPZ900 was probably the first bike that looked all of a piece with a full fairing, but it was still too upright - the GSXR was much more hunched up and broad shouldered, it really looked like you could ride it up to a race track from your house, through the pit lane and blitz everything else on the track.

I wouldn't mind having a go on one now, but something tells me that, like most old vehicles, they might not have aged well.

True. But Suzuki hadn't done one in the black/red when I bought mine (not in the UK, at any rate). I liked to be different back then Laughing Mine was a Dream Machine paint job on the very first model. Bruv's was the '86 release - had the nicer curve of the lower fairing, one-piece seat, and I think they lengthened the swing-arm too.

The slabbies are ok but the slingshot bikes are a lot more powerful and have what i think are the two biggest contributors to modern handling

17" rear wheel

Cartridge forks

Granted they are a bit fatter but you have to offset that against more power, more grip and decent ride quality (and brakes that work).

But they don't look as good, to me at least, which is what this thread is all about.

Generally I like older, but there are some exceptions (Suzuki GSX for example), but same with newer steeds - the latest MV triples, Ducatis and R6s for example...

Prefer new shape bikes. Older bikes look too bulky.

I started riding at 12 which was in 1995 so I'll always have a soft spot for the original Bandits, Blackbirds, Thundercats, ZZR's etc (no I didn't ride them at 12 but they're what I used to gawp at and dream about whilt riding around a field on a DT125!). I do like modern looking bikes, I find nothing wrong with them. My main gripe with newer bikes these days is that barely any bikes come out with analogue speedos! I like to see a needle climbing and glancing down at a needle to check your speed seems to happen easier than with a bunch of numbers dancing like they're on a drip of Red Bull. Still wouldn't put me off a certain bike though!

You young'uns will like the newer angular crap only, and you probably started riding on a mid 2000's rossi rep SR50 scoot or similar. Same with you old guys that only discovered the world of bikes say 5-10years ago. The old classics will be lost on you compared to ABS and TCS equipped practical sports tourers.

For the rest of us old school stuff is generally the best, but I still have room to like or appreciate some modern designs and I like the bikes that some say are ugly like the S100RR or ducati 999, as I don't want the stuff that everyone else likes.

Oh and though the slabbie 750 was a great package and a landmark bike of the 80's. The original VFR750 has as much power, top speed and a far better frame, and the FZ had more tech. I'd put an axe through the tank of a slabbie 750 to ride a mint first gen VFR.
