Thanks

You are welcome to enlighten me with the information with in one but I can only seem to find Haynes for 50cc mopeds. I was hoping for something more specific.

Thanks

Isn't the Peugot Luddite whatever a 50cc moped?

All refs I see seem to suggest so... and that ts a water-cooled two stroke.. which probably implies its a minarelli engine if you want to do a bit more research... Or stop being a cheap wad and buy the book... if you cant afford £20 for the manual, then you cant afford to run even a chippy-ped FFS!

However... its a two-stroke and its a 50... it ought to have some compresion, but if you try measuring it, you are unlkely to get any meaningful numbers, cos its got a tiny pot with bludy great holes in the walls, and a combustion chamber so tiny, removing the spark plug and pushing in a push-fit compression tester probably doubles it, IF it even seals half decently!

I'd go by the old rule of thumb... if you hold your thumb over the plug hole and give it a good kick (or spin on the e-start) throttle wde open so it can drag in something to squash, and it makes farting noises pushed past your thumb... its probably got enough compression to run... if not probably not.

Beyond that, if you want t know what state the motor is in, you may as well cut to the chase & take the top off and have a look.. all it needs is a new head-gasket.

Thank you to those giving a sensible answer.

The compression test has come out at 34 which is very low. I performed the test as I would on a 4 stroke assuming the tests are done the same way.

Next job take the engine out and take the head off Smile

OK so all apart. Piston has a piece missing with a broken ring and a groove in the cylinder wall. Sad

You can get loads of aftermarket good quality piston/barrel kits. Just fitted a Malossi kit to a mates sons aerox, looked better made than the original, cost about £100 for everything. Not worth getting the original repaired.
Question is why did it seize?

I'd upload a picture for people's opinion but I'm not sure how?

Looks like something got in there due to the damage. Possible that it seized, broke a piece of the piston and fired that around until it rolled to a stop. I need to check to try and find pieces in there somewhere to try and prevent further damage.

I was contemplating put the 70cc bore and piston in but think setting it up may become a ball ache. Maybe just best to stick with standard sizes. Smile

If its one of those cheap £40 70 kits off ebay dont expect much. They are just a bored out stock cylinder and they hate revs. If its a quality kit then itll run poorly on the stock exhaust and carb.

Cant really win. Laughing

Well..... that sounds disappointing lol.
Thought it'd be interesting. I bought it all from racing planet but will report back on quality. I have a technigas exhaust and will rejet the carb. Hopefully I'll see a bit more pull on hills Smile

Fitted the nakaru 70 kit. Which needed 3 Base gaskets. Took about an hour all in and back together. I upjeted from a 56 to 60 which is 7%and it pulls really well up to 50 but I've not gone any higher ad it needs to run in. It has a couple of minor flat spots which maybe a mixture thing as I've not adjusted the mixture but very happy so far. Definite improvement and pulls nicely. I'll up date once I've tinkered a bit more. It's still on a standard carb (with bigger jet). Technigas exhaust. I may fit a unlimited cdi to see but not decided yet

Are you sure it needed 3 base gaskets and not that the kit was supplied with 3 base gaskets of different thicknesses?

It needed 3 Base gaskets. The kit came with one then I contacted racing planet who advised and sent me an additional 2.

Shouldnt need 3 base gaskets. They normally come with 3 metal gaskets and one paper one. The paper one being the most used on a basic setup.

Wouldnt bother with the CDI. They do nothing. My Minarelli AC scoot runs at 11000rpm through the revs with the standard ignition setup. Pulls wheelies and will nudge 70mph.

The Naraku kit isnt a bad kit nor what I described as an ebay special, but depending on what Technigas pipe your running it may not work so well with that cylinder.

The flat spots will be the gearbox setup.

If your running the stock carb, it may well be a 12mm one ( not clued up on what Peugeot used on that scoot ) and will be ok for 50mph, but anything more will need a 17.5mm carb.

New problem

Got it started turned out to be a bad connection.

Rode it up and down to suddenly hear ting...... and cut out. The piston had seized. I free it off but there is no compression so I will open her up to see what's going on inside. What could have caused it to seize?

The missing bit from the piston that was still in it from the last one...

Too lean, a 7% main jet increase doesn't seem enough for a 40% capacity increase.

Hi
I ended up with a 66 jet which from a 56 would have been anice 18% increase. It did go well.

It rev'd on its own at idle until warm not sure why.

The spec
Naraku 70cc kit
Technigas exhaust
Polini variator rollers and spring

It has the standard airbox and carb. It uses the 56 jet as standard.

What jet do you guys think it should have?
It seized after only a few miles with a 66 jet.

Thanks

I think your way under, 70cc with an open exhaust and standard carb (17.5mm) I'd start at 88 and work from there, general rule of thumb I always used was carb size x 5, never let me down, if its bogging go down jets till its stops bogging.
