 |
|
Was reading up on the RXS 100 redline, apparently it's supposed to be 9500RPM, but mine has always been 8000RPM. Any ideas what could be causing this? I don't get it because it can still do 65MPH on the flat which is pretty standard for an RXS 100. If it revved faster would it go faster? Seems unlikely to me.

Can you feel the rev-limiter? If so, the gauge is not accurate, which is pretty common. I bet the revs are limited by the amount of mixture that can possibly get through, so the crank shaft just won't accelerate any further.
More revs = faster? Well, yes and no. If you already do 65mph (flat out), then I'd doubt the engine has got the power to push the bike any faster.
Oddly enough, if you can't rev it to the top at the top gear, shorter final drive gear ratio would increase your top speed as well as the acceleration. I've noticed this with the CB-1 I had, with 44 teeth rear sprocket, it could do 125mph at the 6th gear, with the standard 40 teeth sprocket it did only about 115 mph, as the engine had no more power to spin the rear wheel at such speed. Well, the mpg dramatically improved, so I was alright with lower top speed.
TL; DR = you could try shorter final drive gear ratio. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

RXS100 weren't restricted, mine would do an indicated 70 at the 9k redline in top gear, it also felt like it would pull further but I was worried about blowing it up.
Can you hit the redline in lower gears? ____________________ Well, you know what they say. If you want to save the world, you have to push a few old ladies down the stairs.

Try oiling your tacho cable.
If the tacho is anything like as accurate as the speedo, you don't really know what rev speed your engine is doing anyway. Just a rough ballpark figure.
Taking it all the way to the redline probably isn't giving you the best power anyway. Look at any power curve chart, there will be a signigficant drop in power just below the redline which is where you should change gear.
Or are you expecting it to go all the way up to the redline in top gear? Because it wont. They tend to be geared for the highest gear where they will just about but not quite rev out when they are in top. Therefore making the most of available power.
You'll generally find if you gear it down, it'll redline in top but at the cost of top speed. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
