One road I use fairly often has three lanes on approach to an island

Island has three turnings and back down the road you came from roads are positioned at 3 6 and 9 oclock if you say you are coming from 12 o clock

All roads off the island are single carriage ways and none of the lanes are marked

If approaching from the road I am on which lane to go straight over?

I've always used middle for straight left for left and right for right and round

Apparently Im wrong

Middle with extra nearside caution when leaving the round-a-bout because no road markings.

Forget the right and wrong, keep yourself alive.

I'd go with recman.
Highway code 186

Turning left, definitely left hand lane. Turning right or coming back on yourself, right hand lane.
Straight on the highway code just says
Quote:

When taking any intermediate exit, unless signs or markings indicate otherwise

select the appropriate lane on approach to and on the roundabout
you should not normally need to signal on approach
stay in this lane until you need to alter course to exit the roundabout
signal left after you have passed the exit before the one you want.
When there are more than three lanes at the entrance to a roundabout, use the most appropriate lane on approach and through it.

So with three lanes I'd choose middle as appropriate (otherwise why is it there? the HC says right hand lane for turning right), signalling and moving left after passing the left turn exit. However, I'd be watching for anyone going straight on from the left lane, and not making an issue either way if I had to accelerate around them or drop back (choosing whichever gives least conflict).

I was learned that the middle lane has dragons. Avoid the middle lane.

have redone this as in wrong area but with a paint pic

https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=311433

it was rogers vid on the island that made me remember and forget where I was
its my driving instructor that says I'm wrong

she seems to think it should be treated like a two lane entry Confused

as a car could go over from the left thinking you are going right

Yes, that was my learning, too much to go wrong in the middle lane.
