Hi all,

Unfortunately it's almost impossible to find pannier racks for my beloved SV650S. I often scour ebay but they never come up, and I've heard of people shipping them from foreign but tbh that's very expensive and a faff.

My welding skills are limited but I have access to mig, tig and stick welding equipment so I wonder how realistic it would be to buy a set of panniers off ebay (with racking), and then adjust the brackets and mounting points to suit the SV? Can't be that difficult surely? If I can find an old set cheap enough it would be interesting project in any case.

Oh and before anyone suggests soft panniers - I have some and have used them several times but they are a pain in the ass to attach, I don't find they hold a great deal, and taking stuff out of them while they're on the bike is really difficult. Oh and they interfere with my indicators.

not from scratch.. yes best bet and results would be to buy a second hand set and modify this to suit .. i fitted a set off a susuki onto a kawasaki.

Cheers for the link. I saw that when browsing a few weeks ago, but the monorack arms are only the two arms that hold a top box.

The picture on their website is annoyingly misleading. sv pannier racks are impossible to find Sad

Sw motech make some that will fit. Check out the quicklock evo range https://www.motohaus.com/acatalog/SW_Motech_Suzuki_Evo.html

I have the some on my bandit. They're really tough. Pricey though. If you don't want to order online try phoning colin appleyard's, thats where i got mine.

Yep, Modified an old style CG125 rack to fit a CG125ES.

I was fairly confident with my welding skills until the rack snapped going over a speed bump and provided me with very soiled undies!

Never again, even with better welding skills and design, i still wouldn't trust it Embarassed

Cheers for responses.

I think it would make more sense to just put a day's overtime in and then buy them instead of dealing with the slating of my welding which I would undoubtedly receive (for good reason). I've seen the SW motech one which appears to come with a choice of attachments, and does allow for givi panniers which is ideal.

Of course I could just change bike but that may be a little ott. A good excuse though. It's far too tempting this time of year!

I built a couple of rack/carrier systems from scratch it not a bad job if you have

The tools and the skills

I have 30 years experience welding mostly repairs to bikes and cars/vans
I use TIG expensive but very good

Think it though carefully too strong is better than too weak
I like squair box section steel for carriers round is better looking but way harder to joint well !

i'll get a pic shortly, beautifully done and fully powder coated. i could certainly ask if they could make you a custom rack, for a small charge obviously, if your interested pm me.

If you going down the amo box route be very sure the rack/carrier you have is strong enough and well enough attached to the bike those steel boxes are heavy and can carry a lot of weight
