So I am on a 2 license, and my insurance police expires this august, so I want to sell this bike and then get a new one. I would like to have an inline 4 sports bike, but so far the only thing I found close to that is an old ZXR400, does anyone know any other bikes? The ZXR400 is nice, but it's really hard to find it, so there isn't a huge choice when buying it, and it feels like there isn't one near me being sold ever.

There is not a good in line 4pot bike over 250cc that would fit into A2 without restriction. This to me makes changing the bike pointless, as who wants a restricted bike anyway?

What's wrong with the 300 Ninja you have? They are not a bad option for an A2 bike and are more exciting than most being not restricted. I'd be more than happy with the performance of a 40bhp bike for two years on a restricted licence, and far less happy with a possibility knackered and restricted ZXR 400 that would not in A2 form ride as well IMO.

Why? It'll still be making no more than 35kW. All the old IL4 400s need (or "need") to be restricted for A2, which will obviate the point of them: the top end where the fun is, if you like that sort of thing.

Do you like it? Or do you imagine that you will?

If you're going to restrict, I'd go for capacity and torque, not high end revs that you won't reach. SV650S with a full fairing and restricted or "restricted".

If you absolutely must have an IL4, just buy an appropriate <70kW Fazer (left as an exercise for the reader) or GSX650F and restrict/"restrict" it.

Sorry I can't answer your question but I hope new riders note that you want to change your bike, even though you're not unhappy with it.
Hopefully they'll see that pretty much every new biker (always the odd exception) wants another bike within a year or two, so they need to understand that and build it into the costs when planning their 1st big bike.

If you want an inline 4 sports bike, you might as well stick with the Ninja 300 until you can upgrade your license. It's only 1 year, and then you can jump on a 600 supersport, instead of fucking around with restricting an old 400 only to get bored of that quicker too.

Wait 1 year > buy fast IL4 you won't get bored of quickly

The patience will pay off. My restriction is up in 5 months Very Happy woo

Thing is I'm afraid my bikes price will drop by a lot next year and I will have to lose out on a lot of money, (2015 Ninja 300). I would rather sell it now and get some cheaper bike. Do you guys think it's not a good idea? And another thing is I am just really sick of parralel twin engine, it's boring and sounds like a lawnmower!

You will get bored of having a restricted IL4 engine immediately
Just wait.

It's already dropped by a lot. The initial depreciation hit is the biggest, and it gets less year on year.

If you're looking at prices on eBay, those are likely to be dealer asking prices. That's not what you're going to get. Think ~£3,300 as a trade in.

What about it do you find boring? If it's the sound then an aftermarket end can will cost far less than the hit on trading it in.

If it's the power delivery, what do you imagine a restricted IL4 will do differently?

An SV650S with a decent system can sound pretty meaty.

If you just fancy a change, no argument there, most of us are tarts. I guess it's too late to say "told you so" about buying a brand new 300cc bike. Wink

How many miles have you done on the 300?

Though I run it down for being not focused enough and as heavy as 600cc sportsbike, your 300Ninja isn't a bad bike period, especially as a faired, semi sporty all rounder.

The performance is ok for anyone on A2, if it was a bit lighter it would be better still, and it's a 105-110mph bike, so it's about 10mph quicker than the fastest sports 125's.

Sound wise it's just a bit too quiet IMO. I like the noise of an open can IL twin motor that Revs to 11k or more. Its more interesting than some IL4's, and I think you'll find its a single cylinder engine that has the lawnmower sound, and even then only small low power examples. A KTM 640 for example would sound pretty snappy and aggressive, nothing like the soft buzz of mower engine.

Oh and selling what must be a pretty clean smart and nice 2015 bike because it's depreciating is a ridiculous notion, but your not alone. There's millions of fools that buy new or nearly new vehicles and in a year or so think OMG it's only going to be worth £xxxx next year so I best get shot asap. Its the same for the fools that think like this on a PCP deal. No one does PCP to keep the vehicle after the 3years anyway.

Get a new exhaust if you must, and enjoy your bike for the final year of your A2 restriction. A 2015 Ninja 300 is a far better e BBC everyday bike than nearly all old 400's restricted or not.

Thanks for the responses, but I just realised I made a mistake, it's 2014 Ninja 300, bought off of a dealer for 4.4k. On the completely unrelated note, does anyone know how much I could get for it next year? It would be probably around 9-10k miles

Yeah, That parallel twin in the Nuda just sounds like a lawn mower Laughing

I guess you really mean that you're sick of the original exhaust can...

Trade in value is about £2900, next year it'll be about £2500. Finger in the wind figures. Private sale price will be whatever someone is willing to offer for it, which may be nothing.
