You can get alarms from about £50 up to £400 or so.

It really all depends what you want from it. Cheaper ones are usually easier for thieves to deactivate, so you pays your money and you takes your choice really.

An approved alarm system will get you a small insurance discount.

Best thing is to get on google and ebay, have a look at what's out there and see what you can get for your money. Thumbs Up

Give your insurance a call, see what alarms could get you a discount and then have a look for one in the shops or on the net, datatool are market leaders i think but they come at a price for top end models Thumbs Up

Any Thatcham approved alarm gives a discount, what he has to decide is whether he wants to pay the extra for that approval as the discount won't be anything like the cost of the alarm.

A £50 alarm makes a noise when someone touches your bike just the same as a £350 one. The choice is in the extras.

Probably not more than £50 I think. Really need to decide what you want the alarm for primarily, cheaper insurance or to let you know when your bike is being nick (as how many people od you see going to see whats happening when a car alarm goes off unless it's theirs).

Insurance reductions ones about £300. You can get cheap loud ones from about £50. You can also get ones which will send you a pager message if your alarm is going off, which is quite useful as then you can actually do something to stop it being nicked.

So really depends what it's for, for cheaper insurance about £300 for an insurance approved one. One which will let you know and you can stop it being nicked from about £50.
