It's catch 22, you want to go out on the bike but on a really hot day, the temptation is to wear less gear because it's like riding a sauna.

What's the coolest way to keep safe?

For example, last night I just had the one piece on and a pair of boxers underneath because it was horribly hot and after 30 mins you're sweating your bollocks off anyway.

Draggin jeans and some kind of kevlar hoody? Doesn't help on the Ducati having that fuck off exhaust pipe loop right under the seat either.

My Richa textiles are pretty well vented. With the lining out it's actually very comfortable with lots of air rushing through. Plus it has full armour in all the right places.

My leathers work best in the heat due to the stretchy fabric inserts in the arms and around the testiculars.

I wear my Mankini if I'm in the mood for it, tinted visor of course.

I wear kevlar jeans and just open all the vents on my RST textile jacket, it has a non removable liner so I'm a bit buggered. I have leather gloves with no padding. My boots are Alpinestars with their own version of Goretex (Drystar). I don't get over hot in those, they're pretty good in all fairness. I think it's the kevlar jeans that rescue me though in the hot weather.

My RST two piece is perforated pretty well so I'm OK as long as I'm not sat at lights all the time. Kevlar jeans and perforated jacket is my other option.

Ride faster.

See my Spain tour thread. I wore full leathers all the way to the South of Spain it got to mid 40s temp.

With your riding gear you can soak your gear (not leather though as it will damage it) in water and create an ghetto swamp cooler which will suck the heat of the air before it hits you.

Commute: I don't really see a need to sacrifice safety by removing layers here because I'm always on the move and I'm only going from point A to B. The most important thing is that I drink loads of water and try not to stop in traffic as much. The moment I stop in traffic is when I notice a dry mouth and get very warm and start to toast.

Main point is that I wear all the gear all the time and nothing less regardless of weather. I'll open all the vents on my jacket, naturally, but beside that there's not a whole load of change. Sometimes I'll wear ankle boots, summer gloves and a leather jacket instead of my WP / textile stuff but beyond that nothing.

Casual: T-shirt / textile or leather jacket, summer gloves and ankle boots.

There's room for debate on the bottom half depending on how I feel when I awake because after I recently became acustom to zipping my jacket and trousers together so the jacket doesn't slide up my back in the event of an off I don't really feel all that confident in kevlar jeans given that they don't have the connection zip to the jacket, I've looked at RST ones and even they don't. Sometimes I'll wear the jeans regardless because walking around town in textiles would be suicidal but try to avoid doing it as much as possible. If I do go for the textiles then I'll wear nothing but boxers underneath.

Not just riding though, when you stop somewhere and just milling about, leathers are horribly un-comfortable especially when the sun is booming down on you.

Saw some guys absolutely nailing around in shorts and t-shirt last night and it made me cringe. I'm not one of those, "omg he's not working gear" nazis, I believe people know the risks and if they want to do it then that's fine, not hurting me.

As much as kevlar jeans / tops are supposed to stop your skin taking a grating, it aint going to be as soft as a sliding down the road in leathers.

I'm due a new set of leathers anyway soon, been a couple of years since buying any and I wonder if there are any more specifically made for the hotter weather with more vents / perforation than usual.

When it's winter, bang the textiles on so not a problem.

It already has some heat shielding in there, I have seen people remove the plastic cover and wrap the pipe in exhaust wrapping. What is the wrapping for?

Currently wearing Kevlar jeans and a vented textile jacket. Bit sweaty if you're walking around in it but fine once you're on the bike.

It's my feet that get too hot in leather touring boots. Might swap them for crocs Wink

Keeps the heat in then sends it further down the pipe, wrap and ceramic coating do more or less the same thing I think.

Apparently you can coat the inside too which might be 'better'. I've never done this, so don't know.

I'm usually wearing jeans/tshirt in this weather. If it's a short ride to the shops I'll keep shorts on. Wearing a jacket in this weather makes me feel like I'm going to pass out. If im heading up some country roads I'll chuck leather bottoms/boots on with a tshirt. I made the mistake of dragging a knee in jeans once before, definitely won't do that again...

I accidentally put my textile commuting gear on when it looked rainy a few mornings ago, 23 degrees on the way home, I was soaking underneath.

My Red Route ones have a short zip that attaches to both my jackets. Just find a local alterations/tailoring place and get them to sew a short zip onto your jeans.

Oxford Cool Dry base layers, John Doe Kamikaze kevlar jeans, white helmet X-Lite 702 it has plenty of vents too many if you ask me, and leather Furygan Speed 3D mesh front jacket it lets all the air in:

https://www.motolegends.com/jackets/furygan-speed-mesh-3d-jacket-black-white.html

When I bought the jacket few months ago my friends were mocking me about no proper summer here, who is laughing now Laughing

Finally ride faster - not good for average speed cameras on my commute though Crying or Very sad

I wear kevlar jeans all year round, don't really get too sweaty, and the jacket's partially open with a t-shirt underneath. Oddly today my head got really hot, haven't been that uncomfortable since I stopped wearing a black helmet.

Only recently got some Furygan TD21 summer gloves (recommended by someone on here), no more sweaty hands, knuckle protection and I can keep them on when fiddling with zip pockets etc. Also impressed they're warm enough when it's 10-12 degrees in the early morning, and they appear to be waterproof based on the thunderstorm I got caught in the other day.

I wear my textile jacket 90% of the time, year round, just sold my leather as I never really got on with the shape and lining. I also wear a non-biking leather jacket I have (blouson style) occasionally if I know it's not going to rain. Legs are plain jeans, or chinos if commuting, and my waterproof leggings live rolled up on the rack all year round. I always wear gloves, but this year I've finally replaced my old worn leather summer pair with a vented textile pair found in the bargain bin at J&S.

I'd rather be comfortable in non biking gear and paying attention, than have all the gear, uncomfortable and making mistakes.
