Hi folks. Been tinkering with a 2000 sv650, it has a tapping noise on the front cylinder. The cam chain tensioners have been checked and is fine and the valve clearances are well within spec. I've done a compression test and it reads 150psi in the front cylinder and 175 on the rear. any ideas what to expect? Could it be piston rings or valves? The pressure doesn't drop down it stays at 150psi

150psi sounds pretty good... Have you checked the valve clearances? What is the state of the exhaust and exhaust gasket on the front cylinder?

I thought the compression should be around 213psi with a variation of 28psi between the two. 150psi seemed low. The valve clearances are spot on all well within spec. I just can't pinpoint where or what's causing the the tapping noise??

when you did the compression test did you hold the throttle wide open? is it carbs?, in which case you'll need to hold open the slides.

Also It's the exhaust header gasket
