Suzuki vl125 intruder km
I bought this bike because it needed ( only ) piston rings.
I have changed them and tried to set the cam as per the book with both set from (R). And both cross hairs level with the head.
She doesn't start . Everything is don't to make the happen but it isn't.
If I keep rear at 12 and change front to 6 then she struggle and sometimes start but not everytime.
I know the carb needs a clean both I need to know the cam is right .
Also the carb. To many tubes. A little help there please also I find I understand things better with pics if anyone can send me some on there carb, cam and fuel system
Thank you

As a quick reference, remove the plug and turn the engine over using a spanner on the end of the crank. Watch the valves, when they are both moving at the same time - exhaust closing and inlet opening - the piston should be just going over top dead centre.

I set the çams as per the manual. This make the bike not work but it matches the firing time as per the book.
If I set both pistons and valves to work at the same time then she still wouldn't start.
I am at a lose, what to do next

Do you have access to a compression tester?

After that, check for fuelling and spark.

Was it running before you did the rings?

I was told it was run no but never saw it. I had her running but rough if I set the front cam to 6 and not 12 .( as in top dead center.
I have done a compression test 130 each.
I am unsure of the carb as it work with a vacuum feed. Also there is two outlets on it and two inlets on the carb . I have replaced the plugs

If you spray easy-start or equivalent into the inlet does it run when you crank it?

If so it's fuel related and not spark.

Have you consulted the workshop manuals for the carb diagrams in the sticky in here?

I checked the list and there is no vl 125 intruder listed.
I can't say it's the carb till I know the cams are right.
When I check the plugs they smell of petrol and if I check the plug it sparks well.

You have compression which is a good sign.

You may be getting fuel in (is the plug too wet now?), and spark - but at the wrong time, even so far as 180 degrees out. It's a v twin so have you tried swapping the ignition leads around?

I'd double check the timing if none of the above helps.

Yes the plug is wet. The fuel gets there. And it sparks fine.
When it was set at 180 out the bike started with help but not everytime
Checking the timing on the cam, piston then spark everything is right
So why did it start 180 out. Also as its a vacuum fuel feed i mite have the pipes on wrong .As two go into the carb and two come out the tank.
I have messaged people selling them but no help there .

Timing marks can be level with the head, but there should also be a timing mark on the crank case that you *also* need to take into consideration.

You might have had it right initially when you say it was 180 deg out. Hard to be sure as I can't find any servicing info with pictures.

Here's a general link that may offer you some further insight.

Thank you for your help. I can now explain everything from the start.
I bought the bike as a non runner with a small wiring problem.
I replaced the loom and everything that came off it. Stator , cdi, coils, everything. All were checked to be I working order.
Next was the engine. Both sets of rings, plugs, valve and new tappets.
The carb was cleaned and new fuel in the tank.

Everything was checked wit testers. I spend days phoning other owners and searching the net.
The bike would start and then it wouldn't. With the work done it was hard to pin point the problem. But today the biker Gods looked down on me to help.
After four weeks checking and rechecking.
The last problem was simple turning the ignition. Turn the bike no and off two times and she starts ( every time ).
So fingers crossed. I will be back on the road soon.
I will update after the mot.
Again thank you

Well double turn the key and she starts no problem. But now she is running . I have new problems. The battery is not taking a charge. I will replace the stator and see what happens. I am a little over budget so I will wait on results before ordering new battery.
Also the trip meter isn't working but the needle moves to show speed ?

Check the regulator and wiring before blindly replacing the stator. Check stator output in AC
