Nope. Have MOT'ed a bike without mirrors before. If they're fitted then they have to be not broken and safe, but you don't have to have them. Thumbs Up

That's why your CBT instructor spent so long going on about rear observations and 'lifesavers'. Mirrors are a useful extra and should not be relied on.

Got to admit that I do feel a lot better with at least one mirror to see what is coming up from behind me though Wink Police

If I ever ride a bicycle now, I look behind 10 times more than I used too as I look for my mirros constantly and can't find them, therefore I do my lifesavers much more often. I should do them more often on my bike really, but the mirrors is such an easy way out.

Mirrors are definately not necessary for MOT... My NRG passed it's last one having broken both L & R mirrors (lowside skid in the rain Crying or Very sad). Ironcially, what is required is a rear reflector on your bike and if you have >50cc, a "downlighter" for your registration plate, which i find rather astounding!!!

Why is having a light over the number plate astounding? It means the plate can be seen at night which isn't really hard to understand the reasons for it. The reflector I do find fairly picky and havn't bothered with ones on my bikes apart from ones attached some how for MOT's. But a light over the number plate, without one at night you might as well have a not have a number plate.

Have riden without mirrors, didn't find it much of a problem really as I do lifesavers before changing direction so wasn't missing anything without them. Did miss them when just wanting to see the vehicle behind me (is it a police car:lol:) or whats happening behind but did manage okay and would be happy to ride again without them.

I'm sure any MOT guys will correct me if I'm wrong but when I took my bike for it's test a few months ago I asked this very question, the answer I was given was if they are fitted as standard on the bike then they have to be present and working for the MOT. If they're not a standard fitting then they don't. So really the answer could be both yes and no Smile
