Let them find out that their oil is virtually worthless and that Spain will veto their accession after they leave Laughing

I expect the UK to end and think it's an awesome time to live.

It won't be one of war or destruction, it'll be an amicable and democratic end to an extremely important chunk of English/British history. Quite a time to be alive.

But I think it's necessary. Something about life in the UK had become very stale. No sense of identity, being part of the EU machine, etc. This potential huge new change could be just what we all need to properly glue society back together and make people proud of themselves as one large cohesive community again, with our own regional identities that go beyond north/south and England/Scotland (sorry Wales) and a certain sense of togetherness that I think is lacking these days. Leaving all these apparent 'unions' may be just what's needed.

Though it's nothing to do with economics or whatever else, I think social identity and cohesion is a major issue and, as right wing as it sounds (I do confess to being a real Nationalist Socialist, heh), national identity is extremely important for making a populace happy. A break up of the UK will certainly make people think more seriously about who they are again. Communities will grow closer out of it.

Naturally, the regions sharing a normal, land border* with another EU country voted overwhelmingly Remain. So did Scotland, for a number of its own reasons.

What they will do now relies mostly on whether we will remain in EEA. If yes, not much will change in practical terms.

However, the Leave movement is against half of the idea of EEA; they want an open market for goods and services, but not an equally laissez-faire idea of people choosing themselves which state's services to purchase with their taxes.

Our New Beloved Leaders (NBL) may attempt to negotiate a deal to have the half of EEA they like, but I think good luck with that - it is a bit like negotiating with Pizza Hut to have the half of the relationship in which you eat the pizza, but not the half where you pay for it.

Consequently, much depends of the NBLs' attitude; if they get real, things may just work out**. If they rise up in a sacred anger against Establishment, Diktat and Climate Change Myth (a very possible course of action IMO) we may find ourselves on a course towards United Kingdom of Wales and Most of England.

*That includes St Pancras.
**Not necessarily for Scotland.

If they really are going for it they might have to be a bit quick with risk of the EU going tits up as there's several members having ideas about having their own referendums.

If people got cold feet about leaving the UK before then leaving when Europe is in turmoil from brexit is even less likely to look appealing.

All this talk of winners and losers, as far as I can tell the facts indicate it's been a goaless draw.

The UK's still in the EU, for the forseeable future.
Little or no chance of article 50 being invoked in the near or medium term future.
CMD has washed his hands of the whole shebang and handed the poisoned chalice over to Gove and Boris, who are both politically stymied.
Our, glorious, MP's threatening to ignore and override the results.

The only things we know with absolute certainty, at the moment, are the UK is, currently, in a political vacuum, there will be a general election, sooner rather than later and the promised £350M per week for the NHS might have been a, fcukin', huge porky pie!

So, other than that, it's as you were last Wednesday, don't hold your breath and prepare for disappointment!

My hope is Wessex will be free and that we can get a monarch with a proper Saxon name like Aethelstan.

Then we can go and finish off those fucking mercian scumbags once and for all.

This. I cannot see why the people of Wessex shouldn't take control from the unaccountable Westminster bureaucracy and the unelected UK royals (if it was only one royal - but there's more like a dozen of them and the man in the street doesn't even know their names).

Can you give a précis of his summary? It appeared to be him having an epiphany that not everyone in the UK is a wealthy London metrosexual.

It's the other way around now. All the guys I know professionally are pissed off cos we all work across Europe and know how many jobs and how much money is going to be lost. All this bollocks of 'it'll be alright' - no it won't be. We work in the EU every day and have no understanding why people with zero experience keep telling us 'it'll be fine, just get on and do it.'

It'll be fine in a sense that we'll lose a lot, I will personally lose a lot of money, will see a lot of English jobs lost and see that money and jobs go to someone else in another EU country. If that's fine, I don't want to know your definition of 'bad.'

Strange how people with zero fucking experience of working in the EU are the first to say it'll be fine.

I filled up the car this morning. Cost me an extra quid. Thanks Brexit.

On the other hand, the small wad of dollars in my desk drawer is now worth more than most people's houses. I need to convert that to yen before November.

Yen or Yuan? Number One Bank China will be happy to take your dollah. I'm considering squirrelling some away there, I understand they do best laundering in town.
